I'm surprised no one has mentioned this! Today the Spanish Indignados are awakening from their hibernation! In Madrid, each "barrio" or neighbourhood is starting their own march- with different colours representing different aspects of the society they would like to change- to the final destination: Puerta del Sol. They will reunite in Puerta del Sol at 8 p.m. The representative colours are the following: Red- Employment Yellow - Economy Orange - Youth White - Healthcare Blue - Water Brown - Migration Blue - Housing Green - Education Purple - Femenism Pink- Disobedience and Peace Together, United, We'll never be defeated!
Today went really well. I'd say there were probably a few thousand people in the Square(Puerta del Sol) by 9 p.m. when all the respective neighbourhood groups of Madrid united. The square was packed, crowded, even hard to breath..which is good, the more the better! Around the square, behind metal rails and police vans, there was a police unit of an estimated 1,500-2,000. It is now 3:56 a.m and there are a few hundred people left. Some have decided to "camp out" on cardboard boxes, a tent has been pitched, some are saying they are set to stay for a couple of nights. I'm holding my breath and keeping my fingers crossed...let's see where this goes guys! http://www.livestream.com/spanishrevolutionsol
It is now 5:07 a.m. Approximately 10 minutes ago the police units have stopped all incoming human traffic around the square and the occupiers, around 70 or so of them, have left peacefully. The police vans have barricaded the area, as I write, garbage trucks and cleaning people are cleaning the scene, ridding all the posters, the cardboard beds, etc.. http://larazon.es/uploads/portada/fichero/10000/P001CAT_PRI13052012001_1.pdf This is a cover of a news headline for today's paper. It's called '15-M 15 lies' I will translate what it says (this is serious, guys.....serious bullshit) 1. It does not protect the roots of democracy 2. They are not attached to the anti-system 3. They are not tools for change 4. They do not defend responsible politicians 5. They do not defend those who suffer most from the crisis, for example the merchants 6. They do not want democracy instead they want a mixed model of socialism, communism and anarchism 7. They are not all pacifists 8. They do not believe in voting 9. They do not rebel against all forms of social injustice 10. They do not practice solidarity 11. They are not against political parties, they are against those they don't like 12. They are not organized horizontally 13. They do not rebel against all forms of impunity 14. They do not represent the majority 15. They are only non-conformists when it is convenient to them
It is 5:57 a.m, some occupiers have been rounded up for arrest. They are yelling "No volencia!" No violence! The police are getting physical.
