Connecticut state police pulled over a man for being radioactive. It seems the police now have radiation detectors in their cruisers. What next for our paranoid society?

Crazy shit... They are going to be pulling over a lot of people just like the guy in that article... doubtful they will find any "terrorists"

    What's next?

What's also weird is that the doctor actually handed him a note just in case this sort of Orwellian surveillance should occur. The note says that he had a radiation procedure and thus he should be excused from getting into trouble with Big Brother.

Man, doctors notes are like "Get out of Jail Free" cards these days... ;)

Wow. I'm gonna have to stop carrying around my deconstructed smoke detectors.

I'd like to know the money spent vs results from patrol cars scanning for radioactivity...

when they have them people say its a waste of money

then when they investigate the dirty bomb that contaminates half of California and find out the material was shipped across the country in a 73 caprice wagon they say why the fuck doesnt anyone have detectors for this shit?

    ^ agree with bbad

I think it's ok for them to use the radioactive detectors. They will probably not detect any real problems, but in principle they could stop a dirty bomb or a nuclear device

while the cost may not justify the benefits, overall, the benefit to public safety justifies the potential hassle to innocent people, as long as they don't freak out on you for having had a legitimate medical procedure

I'm much more worried about journalists and legal observers being arrested at protests/ protest suppression tactics

that and the use of FBI and other security agencies to carry out political dirty work. FBI was digging dirt on Spitzer, most likely because the banks wanted him out of the way

Or..... "get out of CIA black site waterboarding free" notes ;)

It's neat that the sensors are that powerful, and creepy and retarded that they have them in the first place.

I think all teachers should have radiation detectors too! You never know when a kid is gonna bring some dirty nuke to school that he picked up at a garage sale.

What I wanna know is when they're gonna have Bullshit detectors for our leaders...

If it had been a real terrorist carrying material for a nuclear device, or whatever, I doubt the police would have even survived long enough to carry out a test, lol. Paranoia is just fear - never stops anything.

When I had my hip replaced I had some kind of test that required carrying around a card from the doctor in case I got stopped. Made me wonder if I really wanted the test. (This was in 2006)

I gotta' say, Radiation detectors in squad cars,,, this is one of those moments when I have to say "I love Big Brother".

And I have to say for the sake I've spent the past 2 or 3 months on Facebook talking about alternative approaches to Nuclear fusion on NASA's and the White house wall WITHOUT a knock from my elder sibling,,, I'm breathing a bit easier as a rule, albeit a bit frustrated at yet another failure in the war for the 2nd amendment. :D
