Around here in central pennslyvina there are ALOT of these tiny creepy bastards. if you turn over fresh dirt in the woods you can see the red ticks all over the ground running. i had 11 of the black/brown ones on my clothes, and one in my neck after planting a few plants in the woods. and my boys have had them on there clothes just from playing in the yard. and last year they seemed just as bad. as if there getting worse every year, i don,t remember getting any of these bastards as i was a kid playing in the woods all day long, we used to roll in the grass, leaves now you have to worry about getting a tick. Well we have animals 2 dogs and 2 cats. cats sleep anywhere and the ticks get on them easier, ive pulled off at least 10 off the cats this year so far. and the 2 dogs we have a german sherprd, and a rottweiler. i have not found any on them, but there black and harder to find. well my rotti must have had one, although they did,nt find one at the vet. Sunday moring she was limping on her front paw, did,nt think much of it they were runnig all the day before.she eat went to the bathroom. and moved around for the day limping. monday she would not get up(dry nose) i thought well she,s just got the puppy flu gave her food and water while she was laying down. this moring she was at the same spot not moved now i,m worried bad, i tried to move her and she just cried bad. it,s like she was parlized and in extreame pain. took her right to the vet, me and the old lady both cryin fearing the wost because i never seen a dog act this way. and she,s like our daughter( we love our animals). well they said she had limesdisease, i thought it took awhile for that to hit anyone or animal that hard, they said after you see signs of it after 7 days there will be permant damage to the kidneys and other things i forget. and i thought once you get it you have it for life, they said it,s cureable now if ya get it in time, they can kill it with shots and pills. and that she will be fine in week. they said her joints were hammerd shut, inflamed so much she could,nt move. she,s still in pain and don,t wanna move much now. i can,t believe this happend in just a 3 day span. i fell so bad for her, good thing i had some money to take her to the vet. 226$ but thats a small price for ma little girl. i just want her to chase me again, and play. and a fast recovery from this shit. but these ticks are so bad here what,s next one of ma boys or me or her.there getting worse every year. the gov. has let lose other bugs to kill other bugs before why can,t they combat these bastards. or is this the new populition control if you can,t afford the shots sorry bout your luck, because most ins. compaines won,t cover it. i heard the nazi,s started putting limesdisease in ticks years ago. what do all you think about these ticks???????
We had a mild winter... very mild. Expect ticks and fleas to go crazy this year, mosquitoes too. (with West Nile Virus for us, and heartworms for the dogs)
Damn , thank God you took her when you did . Yeah seven days and you could really be screwed . Glad she is okay . I lost my Rott. about 3 years ago , so I know the bond . Yeah these fucking ticks are insane . I live in Md. sometimes W.V. or Virginia . And I pulled about 5 off already . It's those damn deer ticks causing the lyme diease . I think because the deer population is going unchecked . Deer and rodents , small mammals are the carrying that shit like crazy . There over populated , the herd needs thined out . It's a certain strain of diff. bacteria I think . But it was never heard of years ago . It came from somewhere . My ole lady got rocky mountain spotted fever six years ago from a tick . Watch the kids man , look for the rash . The "bulls eye" rash . Or if they start not feeling well or have symptoms . Really watch April through September . And I heard some people don't even get the rash . I don't know if it's true or not . Butt yeah there nasty little bitches . oh yeah , and nice sig .
Not that there's anything severe about fleas like there is for ticks, but I've been fighting fleas in the house for over a month... It's way too early for that and they are thick too.
I don't know , their nasty too . I think they started the plauge hosting on rats if memory serves . And maybe the hunta virus . And what's up with the bed bug situation , we wiped them out years ago . I'm hearing their back with a vengance . And immune to all legal pesticides . Hear their being brought across the border where they still use ddt . Hell , wait to they start carrying diease .
Have you ever tried one of those topical treatments like Advantage? I used to put it on my dog and it worked great. Kills fleas and their eggs. I think it works on ticks as well.
Yeah you're right , I use it on my dogs too . It does work very well . Expensive though , but worth it .
i,m just glad we got it in time. but piss, now i gotta worry all summer bout the kids. we live with woods around us we use stuff to keep em off but there everywherebad. like i said turned over dirt say 3ft-3ft you,ll see bout 5-7 of em so every acre has what? a couple thousand. is,nt there no way to get rid of em. or all we all doomed. now a few hours later she is much better alive eating walking, pooping, and straching she seems to be going back to normal just as fast as it set in. thank science. does the gov. think ticks are a problem??
i read a book called Lab 251 about Plum Island. according to that book, lyme disease was a man-made biological warfare agent that escaped plum island. they were hiring nazi war criminals to work there, after WWII, and granting them immunity for their war crimes.
Hell, they probably had Monsanto genetically modify them just to make people sick... And about that "advantage" stuff... I used to, but it's too damn expensive. And I don't like turning the dog into poison, which is basically what it does. Also I've heard the fleas have adapted their way around it, or it looses effectiveness over time. They are now recommending that you switch brands every few years. I've been using essential oils for several years with good results. I've just never had to do that this early in the year before. @ the OP... good to hear your pup is doing better.
Stoner Oxy im glad to hear your pup is doing so much better,my wife and i have had or husky for 15 and a half years and she has always been our daughter, anyway i think they have some sort of spray that maybe you could spray a perimeter around your yard area,i think it attaches to a hose, cant remember what its called but i saw it in a store,if i see it again i will write it down,i know you said you live in the woods,im just tryihg to help you out, ticks and fleas can be a bitch to deal with all the time.
Both... Except they don't recommend cedar for cats, but my guys are fine with it. Dogs it's fine to use cedar oil... I have to be careful with any standard "bug sprays" because of my birds. The mix is peppermint oil, thyme oil, cinnamon oil, lemongrass oil, clove oil, cedar oil. There are some pre-made products available also that work rather well. Thyme oil alone will kill fleas in seconds.
Sevin bug powder in your yard can help control them up around your house. Follow directions about safety and your kids...
Chickens or ducks! A couple of those good critters if you have a big plot of land and you will be tick free! They eat like no other and ticks crawl to the top of grass to latch on making them easy prey!
Get yourself some Guinea fowl! Deer ticks are a delicacy to them, and they're even lower maintenance than chickens or ducks. And why is everything the government's fault? Not saying they aren't shady, but it's not like we didn't have diseases before...
i'm not one for conspiracy theories, but THIS time it might really be the government. there wasn't Lyme Disease before they were working on it at Plum Island. lyme disease is THE sketchiest disease out there in my opinion. if you even mention it to a doctor they start acting very weird. they try to tell you it doesn't exist, or that you can't get it if you didn't live near the town of Old Lyme, CT. i wish i still had that book "lab 251" i loaned it to my dad, who had lyme disease at one point, probably still does, who the fuck knows?
