I've never been on facebook, and never will be. I simply don't see the need for it. One time my ex's friend invited her to be her friend on facebook, something like that (even though my ex wasn't on facebook) which required my ex's email address to be given to facebook. Immediately her inbox was flooded with spam, and has been ever since, whereas before that she got no spam at all. Go figure.

I just dont see how the Facebook IPO is going to be a good long term investment

Unless they diversify, their business is too centralized. Simplify it down and everyting is depending on people using devices to access their servers. All you need is one big advancement in tech to erode that. And its not like they are really going to be able to increase market share.

If the float had been 3 years ago everybody would have gone nuts for it. But now it feels like its come at FBs peak and it can only be downhill from here

Theres nothing on FB thats just a reorganization of something else, email, pics, chat, messaging. No reason it needs to be proprietry and we'll get to a point pretty soon where your client (your phone) does everything faster than the server can.

And thats probably the next big step, making social media portable and generic. Which will render Facebook Worthless

I'm glad I deleted my account when I did.

Let the stock collapse like it would have if JP Morgan wasn't desperately trying to keep it afloat. The big banks deserve to lose billions after decades of stealing from the American people. Hell, just let the whole stock market collapse so that we can stop prolonging this economic depression.

Awesome, I want to see FB die. This makes me more glad I don't use it. I find it scary that FB tracks its users while signed out.

    - when they let the little guy in , it should be at around 35$ a share(maybe they have already, I dont follow the market much )
With all speculation being shaky at best- with looming lawsuits and competition from some of the smaller social networks out there(and more sure to come)- this looks like a house of cards -
Be careful- this ain't no GOOGLE*

I'm on the good side of every lawyer show on tv. Aren't you?

    ?

A good lawsuit is as good as a lottery ticket if you earn it right

    ?

Probably not as much fun, and lower stakes

especially if you are watching court tv.

As to Facebook. Yeah, I'd sue em or leave em too.

I'd rather sue for whatever stupid information they collected.

It's like telling your name to a stranger.

    You should have a choice.

But whatever. It's the internet. You don't have privacy.

    I'm all out.

    Hello.

    Shake yer hand.

    Nice to meetcha.

If all they want to do is sell me stuff.

It still should be illegal but it's not

You know you can be in Facebook without being on Facebook, right?

If any of your friends and family post your pic there, well there you are in all your naked glory. (uhhh maybe not naked naked).

i hope FB loses the suit and goes bankrupt. not only is it a completely useless thing on its own but we also need a precedent which would reinforce users' right to privacy over the internet.

Surely every site tracks users? I thought they did - just delete your cookies and stuff when you logout of it.

Facebook tracks people across sites -- everywhere you see their "Like" button, your browser has hit their server(s) to retrieve it. They're not unique in this; Google is another very well known example, via their advertising and "+1" button.

If you delete only HTTP cookies, you're still being tracked.

A pretty good rule of thumb: If you're not paying for the online product (and often when you are), you are the product.

    ABOUT TIME!

And Mark Zuckerberg deserves all the criticism that gets thrown at him. I'm not someone who likes to judge, but I can't see him as anything other than a spoiled sell-out. He'll regret it one day....

Yeah it is a love/hate relationship and just as I learned with MySpace - you can walk away from it. In fact, I never liked FB at first but when MS self-destructed (by making 'improvements' that no one wanted and that slowed my computer down to dialup speed) all my cyberfriends went to FB where I have been hanging out. MS is just a ghost site now. I don't even know if anyone works there anymore.

Then the FB bastard techies started changing things just like they did at MS and there was a lot of complaints. I think they slowed that shit down but my computer frequently freezes up while I am in foto albums. (maybe they will lay off the techies and it can float without change for a while).

And don't forget these AKA's I've conjured up: ForceBook, FarceBook, FartBook... Anyhoo, when I finally decided to get off FB(i), I requested a download of everything I'd posted. (It's key to add here that I religiously deleted all my posts every few months.) But guess what? It was still all there! ...the whole 9 yarons; the entire 18 months of loneliness, during which I was caught in a social vacuum sucking on a dummy placebo of imaginary friendship. What really bites is when you have lived a while as an idea person & you realize you are spitting out some of your best epiphanies into the public domain. Remember when writers had something called 'writers' block'? Well, no no more, he-haw! I realized when I was doing my thing on Venice Beach why 85% of Santa Monica (down the beach) as listed as being Artists. They are journalists & TV & Hollywood Script Writers & that is their free 'think tank', so when they need an idea, they just stroll down the beach & steal one... I can't do the subject justice. Privacy is Dead. FaceBook killed it.

Does anyone remember the video clip where Mark Z was asked about those who aren't on Facebook and he replied, "Oh, they'll join soon enough", then gave an evil laugh with a smirk on his face.
