I could use a hand being pointed in the right direction on moving to India/Nepal and becoming a Sadhu. That's pretty much it. I don't think getting off the plane, walking to an Ashram, and knocking on the door would be cool. There are differant Ashrams and Temples who focus on different areas etc. Lot of variables to consider. I'd like to make the most educated "shot in the dark" that I can. Thanks.
I remember back when i had dreadlocks and smoked ganja all day. This was my dream. Honestly just knock on the door of any Ashram. You'd be takin in with open arms just about anywhere. Take as many shots in the dark as possible. As a principle for experiencing the spiritual, that's always been key for me.
I have a modest amount of experience with Sadhus having spent time in India and Nepal. It started when I attended the 2007 Kumbh Mela, so inspired and with the support of new friends I travelled to the The Kedarnath temple in the Himalayas and then in Nepal studied Kashmiri Saivism. As with life Hinduism has many facets and points of access - I would recommend attending the next Kumbh Mela, there you will find Gurus, Sadhus, Holymen, common folk and everyone inbetween. Oh and learn a bit before you go, fortunately my partner is Indian so I new a bit of language, culture and customs before I went :sultan:
M: If you are earnest, you don't need moving about. You are yourself wherever you are and you create your own climate. Locomotion and transportation will not give you salvation. You are not the body and dragging the body from place to place will take you nowhere. Your mind is free to roam the three worlds -- make full use of it. ~Nisargadatta Maharaj
