It`s peculiar how I feel pressured to Slut Walk even though no one actually invited me or peer-pressured me into it. I guess I have a lot of feminist, and lefty friends... Here are things off the top of my head that I disagree with Slut Walk: a) in the slogan, it says, something about dressing the way you want. That discussion is a throw back to my college days, when I was accused of being a fascist for saying that women should cover up. Not as a law, or anything, but you know, for everybody`s sake; cover-the-fuck-up; b) the second slogan, concerning women who have sex with whomever they want also seems disingenuous. First, because, women are the greatest perpetrators of the slut label. Secondly, because no one needs to know whom you`ve fucked. I feel like a discussion about making sex a more private phenomenon is needed; and, that includes marriage, PDA, etc. c) Finally, the whole equality thing. Yeah, right. According to Forbes magazine women control 65% of the wealth in The States. That`s not because they`ve worked for it, it`s because of marriage. Throw in alimony and child support, along with the fact that women do have hiring preference in many sectors of the office/service economy (something which is completely ignored by feminists), along with greater presence in colleges, and the whole equality thing seems ridiculous anymore. Not only that, women don`t want equality for the most part: until they are miners, and laying roads, and construction workers, and in the military, and pick up tabs when dating, whenever I hear "equality", I only hear "we want to eat our cake and have it too." d) As far as abortion, I am pro abortion. But, I feel pro-choice people drum it up as a partisan thing way too much. The fact is, you can still get an abortion in any state in the U.S. You can get day after pills, and free condoms, and whatnot. Whatever the fuck more do you want? e) Slut Walk just seems like another attempt by the PC establishment to let women get away with any and everything without accountability. What is your take on it?
I agree with a lot of your points, but the slut walk as I know it originated as a protest against rape, more specifically, of blaming the rape victim for the way they dressed, as though showing skin meant they deserved to be raped. No one deserves to be raped (and yes, men get raped too). Abortion's not as easy to come by as you may think; Mississippi for example has only one abortion clinic in the whole state, and in larger, more rural states it's even harder to get to one. Granted, I don't really see abortion as a "right," merely an extension of the "right to life" of the mother--illegal abortions are currently the 4th leading cause of maternal deaths in the world. But, I don't want to turn this thread into a long ass debate on the subect. As for how women dress, sure it would be nice not to have to look at some white trash girl's muffin top, but ultimately, you do have a neck and can turn and look the other way. Honestly, when it comes to sex in this country, we are woefully unhealthy on both sides--it seems to be one extreme or another, you're either opposed to any form of it outside of marriage, obsessed that other people don't do things you'd find disapproving in the privacy of their own homes, and make girls (why is it always only the girls??) take retarded virginity pledges....OR, you're living a reactionary existence against the aforementioned, and you're obsessed with sex and talk and flaunt it constantly, as if it were the only thing in life that matters. As I see it, women's real inequalities now are in third world countries, where there's not enough access to birth control and far too many women are still dying in childbirth. Then you have cultures that don't send their girls to school. That's all this really is about--culture. American culture is about harping needlessly on sex, whether for or against it, and I'm not sure any kind of public discussion on privacy is going to do any good, especially when we live in the age of facebook. You'd be better off learning to ignore people who dress offensively to you. Although I do think it's total bullshit that people who are ok with women dressing provocatively often are the same ones who freak the fuck out if someone breastfeeds in public. Yeah, boobs are ok in a halter top, just don't use them for their actual intended purpose. Anyway, just my 2 cents.
Oh, your all chicks. Now I get it it. I was a bit confused and thought you were all dudes as well. Sorry for the disturbance. Continue your talk. I'll leave you to it.
Of course you do. The Slut Walk will never ever turn a critical eye inward onto women like feminism in the past has done. It is 'feel good.' It is a movement to increase the feeling of female entitlement and the notion that women are above criticism. Everything is always everyone else`s fault. I think you`re more old-fashioned than I. You believe that women are too fragile to take responsibility for themselves and their actions. I don`t; I believe women are strong enough to be held accountable. If men advertised their naughty bits like women do, we`d be in jail. Whether or not we came up with some 'I do it for me' mumbo jumbo. But women are supposed to get away with everything. That`s the point of The Slut Walk and of PC. Do you want to free yourself from the shackles of secretarial and customer service work? Lay roads, roof in the middle of July, join the military, work in sanitation, construction, landscaping. Become a cop. A miner. Operate heavy machinery. Join a moving troupe. And work overtime like men do. Your last point is straw man. Since I`ve stated clearly I am pro choice.
I wanted to go to the slut walk, easiest place to get laid. Not even kidding, my friend went and spewed out a couple of liberal ideals and the women flocked to him. On topic: You speak the truth Cherea, there is always a double standard.
In case anyone else was confused, wiki-link My only disagreement with your first couple points: it doesn't matter if you cover the fuck up, or you walk around butt naked. George Carlin would tell you that rape probably happens more near the North Pole than the equator. And I just think it's rather irrelevant to the main issues, even if it is how these marches started and got their terrible name. But feminism is total bullshit, and at this point is just grinding the old-world's proverbial testicles even further into mush (in the Western World) To keep those rights amidst an ever-maddening religious base and an ever-weakening liberal gut. I'll agree they do; I don't agree that this has much to do with that.
regarding "dress anyway that you want" How a woman dresses has been used to excuse sexual assault. On the other hand there are those who (while not excusing the assault of women dressed "slutty") say that dressing demurly is a practical matter of personal safety. Is there any evidence that how a woman dresses effects if they are assaulted? Do women who "dress slutty" get assaulted more often than those who don't? I could see where they get propositioned more often, but assaulted?
something like 75% of sexual assaults come from people the women already know, so i doubt that clothing choice has much to do with it.
That`s N.A.W.A.L.T. (Not All Women Are Like That! ), which I have addressed elsewhere. I don`t like repeating myself, so look it up if you`re interested. The whole liberal package (environmentalism/animal rights, feminism, social welfare, pro-choice, vote Democrat, etc.) is barely held together by the kind of peer pressure you`re pitifully trying to put on me, and usually the way people such as yourself who don`t know what to do with someone who is not a slam-dunk liberal do things is call us pre-historic throwbacks to a much worse era. As if, PC liberalism were an inevitable by-product of the future and progress. A stupid prejudice with absolutely no basis in fact. Actually, women did not have it that bad in the past, regardless of what your university curriculum or Cosmopolitan magazine says. And, the proof of that is that women resist equality every step of the way, preferring instead to have doors open for them, tabs picked up, marrying taller breadwinners, applying for service jobs almost exclusively, and being taken out of burning buildings and sinking ships along with their children before men. You don`t seem to know what to do with someone who is absolutely pro-choice, in favor of legalizing every single victimless crime (abortion, all drugs, prostitution, gambling, and euthanasia), who`s well-versed in real (as opposed to, 'feel good') feminism (Camille Paglia, Simone de Beauvoir, Nina Hartely, etc.), who defends women`s rights to non-monogamy tooth-and-nail, but who also looks down on the breach of privacy that is the whole dress up-date-marry-in-public game. Do you want to be truly 'modern'? Embrace women who use skills other than cockteasing to get what they want. Again, I think you`re the one who`s medieval and Jurassic between the two of us.
Either way I'm sure Forbes has much better statistical data than Cosmo, arsehole. Look: you're a generalist. You're closed-minded. And you suck.
He makes some valid points, it's not about generalizations but it does attribute to a lot of the social norms we see in everyday life. The generalization sticks because it holds some truth, whether it applies to everyone is really based on opinion but for the most part he is only saying what he believes is the truth. There is a reason everyone thinks feminism is a joke and no it's not to oppress women it's to show the hypocrisy. You are generalizing his opinion and then insulting him, what does that say about you?
The Slut Walk starts now in my town. I predict a big concentration of women who are seriously uptight about sex, but like to run their mouths about it in skimpy clothes.
Cherea keep posting and you are asking for a death sentence, the women will flood you with hate comments lol.
