So people like to tell me that smoking is a sin, siting below scripture: "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your Bodies." 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 The bible says nothing specific about smoking, and it seems like it's just a "sin" made up by man. Is smoking a sin? If it is, are fatty foods sins? Staying out in the sun too long a sin?
Not sure about this, but I don't think man learned how to inhale gases through burning cylinders until well into the 2nd millenium AD.
Some verse in genesis says, "i give you all the animals and plants blah blah blah" so no, but either way sinning doesn't matter if their is no enforcement, use your morals to generate what is right and wrong not if an old book said so.
I'd say using tobacco products intentionally and regularly is a sin, since it kills the cells in your body, constricts your vessels, tars up your lungs and shortens your life span. It makes you more prone to health problems and diseases. Nicotine is also one of the most addictive substances. Sorry to sound harsh, but I'm just being upfront and straight with you. It's poison. Society has done a lot to instill apathy on the subject, but the truth still remains. But cannabis use, as long as you're using it with the right intent/mindset, is not a sin. It heals the cells in your body, dilates the vessels, adds a protective layer to the lungs, and is by far the most significant medicine on the planet. It also moves your energies higher, and can be a very spiritual and creative tool.
Huh? Tobacco's a hard substance. So are drugs like heroin, etc. Cannabis is a soft drug. That's the way it is bro. Sorry if you don't like hearing it. I'm not saying it has to be medicinal to not be a sin. Nothing wrong with recreational cannabis or psychedelic use. But mindset and intent means everything (like how you use the high or trip). So does the amount of intake. So does the type of substance, and whether that substance causes harm to our bodies.
Was it a sin when the public didn't know the nastiness it was consuming and even doctors said it was all OK? Is smoking real tobacco less of a sin as it's not as toxic and often used in spiritual ways as you suggest about cannabis?
To answer your first question, obviously no. They didn't know. And while real tobacco doesn't have the thousands of chemical additives cigarettes have, it still has nicotine. And it still has cancerous properties. I guess a cigar or a pipe on a rare occasion is okay, but getting yourself addicted and taking chances with your body is not the way to go. I find it much harder to breathe and function when I'm around lots of tobacco smoke. But when I smoke cannabis, I don't have that problem. Not even when I hold my hits long and cough. I feel like that says a lot. And come on. I know the natives used tobacco in ceremonies, but I believe it offers nothing spiritually positive. And it obviously doesn't get you high. Sort of an excuse at this point. The dude asked if smoking was a sin, as one believer to another. I gave him a straight answer. If you believe the concept of sin is a joke in the first place, then there's no point in you commenting on this thread. I'm all for weed, so if that's what Jesus Pipes meant, then by all means smoke up! Cannabis is in the Bible after all (albeit currently mistranslated from "kanneh-bosm" to "calamus" and "sweet cane").
"It's not what goes into a man's mouth that defiles him, but that which comes out of his mouth. That defiles him." So apparently toking up isn't a sin but blowing smoke out of your ass is.
It depends. Are you a hot chick who smokes? If so, then yes it's a sin, and your penance is to screw me senseless. if you're not a hot chick who smokes, I don't give a mouth full of warm snow if it's a sin or not.
