I said i have before, i didn't say i always do... for an example, when i'm having an anxiety attack or feeling extremely stressed out about something, then yes i smoke a little weed, which would be like escaping the issues you have that are causing the anxiety or stress, which is what i was talking about. But that doesn't mean it's the only reason i smoke weed, just a very small part.
My uncle is 47 years old and has been shooting heroin into his arm from the time he was 13. It goes without saying he's fucked up in the head and has the maturity level of a 13 year old. On the other hand, from what my mom and aunts tell me, he's always been a little "weird." Now he's a sociopath, and it's impossible to tell if it lead to the drugs or if the drugs lead to being a sociopath. Either way, he's a terrible human being who needs to die in a gutter. Now, my BIL has a 5 year-old's mind with a 16 year-old's rage issues trapped in a 30 year-old's body, and he's never done drugs. He did, however, join the Marines straight out of high school and then joined the Army....I would say the military and some of his childhood has more to do with his issues, although most of his issues involve being a xenophobic asshole, which is clearly reinforced by the military. I think weed in particular attracts "childish" users, since it tends to be a very fun, and innocent seeming drug. You just laugh a lot and eat, kind of like being a kid. Psychedelics seem to attract a different mentality of drug user, not to say they aren't abused by idiot kids who do them just because they want to get "fucked up," which is a totally stupid and wasteful reason to do them. And then you have harder drugs, which people tend to move to when they have deeper issues that weed isn't pacifying them anymore--crack, meth, heroin. Pills too, although some pill poppers got addicted after legitimate use. Really, if you want to learn explore this idea further, look into Leary's 8 Circuits of Consciousness theory, he basically matches a drug to 8 levels of brain development, which totally makes sense, actually. http://deoxy.org/8circuit.htm
Following my earlier line, where I explained that reasons for using drugs has a lot to do with how the drug use turns out, we can also consider that those reasons reflect problems that a person already has-following this, we can look at the reasons that this poster thinks others do drugs and catch a glimpse of how mature, or otherwise, (s)he is. As for just how mature that is, I'll let the reader be the judge.
How about this one. Who cares what other people think about your maturity. What matters is what you know about your maturity. Be confident in your own search for knowledge and understanding in life. There is no point at which a person comes to maturity. It is a lifelong process. The only thing anyone can be sure of is their own desires and their own morals in life. If you can be at peace with yourself and live your life in a way that you're satisfied with and which makes you happy, then no one has any right to accuse you of being immature, and you have no reason to pay any heed to those who may.
i assume you are a senior in high school, right? or whatever the equivalent is in the canadian education system... i'm not at all familiar with it. anyway, sounds like your friends, who seem pretty straight-edge anyway, aspire to fit into the system somehow. this generally is the reason for attending institutions of higher "learning." i mean, unless you're studying the humanities, you're really just grooming yourself for insertion into the corporate money-laundering apparatus. back to the point, though... perhaps the perceived difference in maturity stems from the fact that you would rather do as you please and have a good time than follow someone else's directions and constantly conform to his/her will. i mean, i started smoking herb when i was 13. it did not result in stunted mental development. i agree with the idea that a person's reasoning for using a 'drug' determines the experience they will have. fuck, i forgot where i was going with that... oh well, that's good enough.
WTF is your problem? I have nothing against most people who use drugs, the only reason I don't smoke weed now is because of work. You've never met the people I was referring to, so I don't know what your issue is.
Yeah I honestly doubt that drugs affect how mature someone ages. I mean, I kinda thought about it for a bit, but then after looking at other stoners and what goobs they still are, even after smokking and such, I came to the conclusion that nope... drugs don't affect maturity. I think it's just the person. Who knows?
Most people stop smoking pot after awhile to pursue better jobs and such, but I really didn't experemint with a few harder drugs until I was older and I'd pretty much fully developed into the person I was gonna be before then. So it's easy to assimilate back.
