Hello, and welcome. I'm still a bit new to this, so I apologize if I'm doing something wrong. I've been doing some research and have found a few somewhat viable options, but nothing that jumped out at me. I live in California, so something close would be ideal, however, if the fit is right, I would be willing to travel pretty much anywhere. I'm a male in my mid/late 20's, in good physical shape/health, have extensive IT and electronic engineering knowledge/experience, vegetarian, no major ties to current society. I'm very open minded, driven, respectful, love to learn and laugh, somewhat new to this style of living, but have been interested in it for years. I am a quick learner and feel I would be able to bring a lot to the right community. I am basically looking for a place that is not centered around some kind of social experiment, religion or philosophical idea, but around complete self sustainability, environmental preservation, health, fair cooperation, comfort, learning, acceptance, compromise, and continuing survival. Religion and philosophy are important parts of life, but when it comes right down to it, those concepts are not truly tangible, while basic needs are. Therefore, in my ideal community, survival, safety and comfort should take priority over currently intangible ideas, that no one has yet to physically prove. I'm looking for a friendly, open and fun community that shares responsibilities fairly, works together as much as possible and is open to new things, but researches and discusses things fully, before making decisions. A community that strives to live naturally while balancing old and new schools of thought. Balancing necessary technology with traditional methods and only employing/developing the cleanest, safest and most efficient technology possible. Shared homes are great, but I would like to find a community that allows individuals/families the option to build a small personal dwelling if they so desire. Sharing food and resources either partially, fully or not at all, is fine. Being free to act as one desires in a respectful way, whenever one desires without harming anyone/anything else, should be at least somewhat similar to the community's philosophy. I am striving to completely remove myself from the grid permanently or at least as much as possible, and would like a community dedicated to the same thing. Anyway, I could go on all day with specifics, but really I just want to find a section of land, within a few miles of a water source, that would allow me to take care of as many of my own needs as possible. I can keep to myself quite a bit, but would love to be around like minded people as well. If you are a part of or know of a community with similar goals, let me know.
