Saturday is usually garage sale day in my world. Today I found:

    1 sleeping bag--- $3

    2 T-shirts --- .50 each

2 leather jackets--- 1 for 25 cents, the other for free*

1 aluminum (or maybe steel, haven't checked) sports bottle--- .25

1 rubber snake--- .25 (I use them to keep rodents away from my place. Seems to work)

1 rolling luggage suitcase to put it all in (looks new too)--- free*

*It pays to get there just before closing.

    So how'd you do?

I haven't been garage selling in a really long time. I probably should sometime. It can be fun when you finally find one that's not just old clothes and Tupperware

So I now have enough bedding to set up another camp (which is what I hope to be doing tomorrow). Always pays to have more than one camp when you live outside.

...so I wont have to do my laundry until at least Monday.

. . .Probably going to cut them up and use the leather to make pipe-pouches. Hoping to get off my ass soon ans start selling my pipes in earnest and I figure it would be cool to have pipe and tobacco pouches to go along with them. Already got the paints and brushes I need to decorate them (now all I need is the talent).

    . . .For making coffee.

About 2 hours of running around and $5 and I'm just about ready for summer. :sunny:

Sounds like you found some good deals.

I've bought leather jackets at sales and thrift stores to use for similar pouch making and other projects.
Old abandoned leather furniture is a good source to and more likely Free.

I haven't been to a garage sale in a couple months. last one I stopped at I got my $10 mountain Bike :)

How lucky that you get to live outside in a bamboo hut. Sounds ideally awesome to me.

Argh, I haven't been to a garage sale in years! Usually I'll just go op shopping whenever the urge calls.

    Thanks for the tip, Skooky.

    Score! :D

It's pretty cozy and it got me through the rainy season just fine. Usually when the weather starts getting nice though I just sleep outside under the stars. Might build another hut at my new camp just for storage anyway, and because there's a nice open spot there just screaming "build a hut here!" :D.

    your very welcome

I stumbled across an abandoned cabin kind of nearby while out rambling. I have spent some time camping out there. It's in pretty rough shape and the raccoons haven't been in a very sharing mood. if it was further out of the way from the rest of the world I would stay there for longer periods of time.

I need to get out to more garage sales to find me a better back pack and misc. gear. I've also been looking for the perfect holy grail of all ramen bowsl to. lol

Generally tho there are very few things in this world I need other than food and the company/friendship of others.

People still have garage sales? I thought that's what craigslist was for.

There are usually a lot of yard/garage sales around here but I have not gone in a couple years. I keep telling myself I need to get rid of stuff before I bring any more stuff in here. It is a great way to get perfectly good things and I certainly have gotten my share over the years.

I usually stay away from the ones with toys and kids clothes but I am told that if you have kids it is a fantastic way to clothe them.

that really is a different kind of shopping.

with garage sales you never can look for anything specific and you dont know what your gonna find until you find it.

with craigslist you gotta know what you want and travel to get it and youre not gonna go out of your way for a nifty sports bottle, but if you're at the garage sale and it's already right there, you know...

The wise junk hunter looks on craigslist for garage sales. I'm actually in need of having my own tag sale soon which I'll be sure to post on CL. Thanks for the idea!

Over half of my tools have come from garage sales. Still using a Craftsman radial arm saw I bought in 1985 for $110. Garage sales are a great place for the do it yourselfer. Boxes of screws and nails, all sorts of treasures. Don't forget to dig through those boxes that are full of junk, there may be a hidden treasure.
