Pressure On Trinity Church To Call Off Occupy Wall Street Trespassing Charges An interesting article about Trinity Church, which owns the plot in Duarte Square, where many, including Arch Bishop George Packard, were arrested for trespassing in December. A list of the church's vestry includes Brookfield Properties, AIG, Citigroup, and BNP Paribas. Those arrested in December are scheduled for trial next Monday, June 11, charged either with violation-level trespass or with criminal trespass in the third degree, a charge which can carry three months of jail time. The District Attorney is in charge of the prosecution, but without the testimony of the church's lawyer, Amy Jedlicka, prosecutors would have no case. Protesters picketed during yesterday's church service. On hand was Jack Boyle, a 56-year-old New Yorker on the 11th day of a hunger strike and the 15th day of his HIV-medication strike. "I'm going to keep this going until the church stops trying to send us to jail," Boyle said. "This situation exemplifies how, in a system built on profit, everything ties back to the greed of Wall Street, even Trinity Church" said Brett Goldberg, one of the organizers of yesterday's protest. "We have people who might go to Rikers for standing somewhere for a few minutes. Trinity could make that stop. We hope they do." Cool. If the cops get nailed, it could set a favorable precedent for others wronged by police in connection with the suppression of occupy.
Thanks Aerianne, what great news to start my day, lots of Occupy victories lately. Lets keep up the good fight, its the only chance we have.
NYPD Violated Human Rights of Occupy Protesters, Study Shows August 7, 2012 http://www.eyeonoccupy.org/?p=3916 Here is info on The Report mentioned in the article above - The whole report is here: http://www.chrgj.org/projects/suppressingprotest.pdf Example Excerpted from the report:
Here is The Guardian's report mentioned in the first section of the above post. NYPD 'consistently violated basic rights' during Occupy protests – study Report by NYU and Fordham law schools found 'shocking level of impunity' and department that acted beyond its powers http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/jul/25/nypd-occupy-protests-report
It seems Bloomberg and NYPD don't have to answer to anyone, let alone researchers. It'll be interesting to see the report on the other 4 cities.
This incident is in this video. The cop reaches in and grabs her at 3:18 mark. You can see her clutching the backpack straps to keep it from choking her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eU9Dx0x9h4A"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eU9Dx0x9h4A
Bloomberg is a joke. The city has so many issues of major importance and he wastes time on such petty things like xl soft drink beverages. I for one think the officers clearly seen violating citizens rights should be let go w/o pensions and charged with assault. They pulled the same shit in chicago just on a smaller non-reported scale. Our mayor is no better. I hope occupy can gather momentum now that we are about 90 days from our next 4 years of suffrage.
When OWS was forcefully ejected from Zuccotti Park in November, thousands of dollars worth of property was carted away in city sanitation trucks and destroyed. The People's Library has filed a lawsuit against the city for $47,000 worth of loss. Global Revolution TV livestreamers have filed a similar suit for $45,000 worth of loss. The City Of New York is now saying that Brookfield Properties, owners of Zuccotti Park are responsible and not the city. Read about it here:http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/2012/08/city_and_brookf.php This video shows the sanitation trucks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebHi01829OA"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebHi01829OA
Oh, they (city of New York) "never authorized BP to dispose of any property..." Those lying sacks of shit. oliceman:
Yeah, and it's not like neither of them could afford to pay for the losses. Why make such an issue over $90,000?
Occupy has been marking it's one year anniversary this weekend in New York. There have been marches and rallies. Sunday, there will be a concert given by Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine. The main action is to be on Monday, Sept. 17th. NYPD hasn't changed their shitty attitudes... http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/sep/16/occupy-wall-street-returns-nypd-arrests Fact: NYPD has made more than 1,800 arrests in connection with Occupy demonstrations.
Here's a reminder of Occupy's One Year Anniversary. It's still alive for many. Pic from washingtonpost.com
