Sweetie, we're jewish. Go into christianity if you want debate on jesus..very interesting though. I disagree that only the sinner can be punished, though. We're supposed to try to stop others from breaking a commandment; should jesus be the son of g-d his punishment could be for allowing others to sin- hence the "he died for our sins" line. Just a thought.
1. NOBODY DIED FOR YOUR SINS, (because only the sinner can be punished!) I agree! (interpretation of the meaning): That no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another[Quran 53.38] 2. THERE IS ONLY ONE SAVIOR (and his name is NOT J.C.!)[/quote](interpretation of the meaning): "A Day when ye shall turn your backs and flee: No defender shall ye have from Allah: Any whom Allah leaves to stray, there is none to guide... [Quran 40.33] 3. YHVH IS ONE SINGLE PERSON, (and not a three-way partnership)! How dear they say Christ is God, feel they no shame, I agree on this point as well. Allah(may he be exaled) says: 4.171. O People of the Scripture! Do not exceed the limits in your religion, nor say of Allah except the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a Messenger of Allah and His Word, which He bestowed on Maryam and a spirit from [created by] Him; so believe in Allah and His Messengers. Say not: "Three!'' Cease! (it is) better for you. For Allah is (the only) One God, hallowed be He above having a son. To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is All-Sufficient as a Disposer of affairs 4. NOBODY (just nobody) IS EQUAL TO, OR COMPARABLE TO, YHVH! I agree, the Lord is not like his creatures , and he certainly did not get tired after creating the universe (as claimed by you) nor does a rabbi outdebate him, Allah(ma he be exalted) says, (interpretation of the meaning): We created the heavens and the earth and all between them in Six Days, nor did any sense of weariness touch Us.[Quran 50.38] 112.001 Say: He is Allah, the One and Only; 112.002 Allah, the Eternal, Absolute; 112.003 He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; 112.004 : And there is none like unto Him. [Quran 112.1-4] 5. THIS SITUATION IS PERMANENT (and no junior partner takes over the business.) Say: "Praise be to Allah, who begets no son, and has no partner in (His) dominion: Nor (needs) He any to protect Him from humiliation: yea, magnify Him for His greatness and glory!" 6. THERE IS ATONEMENT WITHOUT "ATONING BLOOD"! For those things, that are good remove those that are evil: Be that the word of remembrance to those who remember (their Lord): [Quran 11.114] 7. REPENTANCE IS ENOUGH! ("God's" suicide on a cross would have been superfluous!) Say: "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves! Despair not of the mercy of Allah, verily, Allah forgives all sins. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.'' 8. YHVH IS NOT THE "GOD OF THE JEWS"! We all, Jews and Gentiles, are His children! It is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.[069.043] ----- You call upon christians to stop their blasphemy and I tell you to stop denying the messangers sent by the Lord of the world, the ones promised in your book! O Children of Israel! call to mind the (special) favour which I bestowed upon you, and fulfil your covenant with Me as I fulfil My Covenant with you, and fear none but Me. And believe in what I reveal, confirming the revelation which is with you, and be not the first to reject Faith therein, nor sell My Signs for a small price; and fear Me, and Me alone. And cover not Truth with falsehood, nor conceal the Truth when ye know (what it is). And be steadfast in prayer; practise regular charity; and bow down your heads with those who bow down (in worship). Do ye enjoin right conduct on the people, and forget (To practise it) yourselves, and yet ye study the Scripture? Will ye not understand? And seek help in patience and As-Salat (the prayer) and truly, it is extremely heavy and hard except for Al-Khashi`in.(those who believe in what Allah has revealed.) Who bear in mind the certainty that they are to meet their Lord, and that they are to return to Him. Children of Israel! call to mind the (special) favour which I bestowed upon you, and that I preferred you to all other (for My Message).[2.40-47]
Whoever said God gets tired after creating? I said that God only works through the laws of physics, and never breaks them. These are my personal views. And who says a rabbi can out-debate God? God made a covenant. He cannot break this. God also gave the Torah to the Jewish people. He cannot take it back. It is ours to understand. I believe I told a story in another thread. That is just a story. It is the traditional Jewish belief that Torah expresses God's will on earth. I do feel that there is much more in common between Judaism and Islam than there is between Christianity and Judaism. It's a shame you couldn't have come here to seek understanding and commonality, but instead like Huck Finn had to come here with the intent to accuse and put Judaism down. Insha-Allah, the next time I respond to you it will not be because you are trying to put down my religion but because you are reaching out to understand your Jewish brothers and sisters. And how do we know which messenger is true and which messenger is false? Show me without quoting the Holy Quran. Use only Torah and show me what is said. Then you will have my answer. My people have something we say similar to that of your people. We say Shalom Aleichem. May peace be upon you. Dauer
Someone did out-debate g-d in the torah, though. Excuse my pathetic vagueness. wasn't g-d going to punish someone who then hid in a city? So g-d was going to destroy the whole city, but someone argued with him (Would you destroy it if eveyrone else was good? what if there were 100 good people in there? What if there were 10 good people? what if there was one good soul?) and g-d decided he was wrong to destroy the city.. I'm not saying someone is comparable to g-d, but yeh.
Then what are you saying? 67. They made not a just estimate of Allah such as is due to Him. "One of the rabbis came to the Messenger of Allah and said, `O Muhammad! We learn that Allah will put the heavens on one finger, the earths on one finger, the trees on one finger, the water and dust on one finger, and the rest of creation on one finger, then He will say: I am the King.' The Messenger of Allah smiled so broadly that his molars could be seen, in confirmation of what the rabbi had said. Then the Messenger of Allah recited: They made not a just estimate of Allah such as is due to Him. And on the Day of Resurrection the whole of the earth will be grasped by His Hand...
Dear Mordecai, Love God with ALL THAT YOU ARE which, naturally, includes that you love your neighbor as yourself. When you can honestly say that you practice this, then Jesus' religion is yours. Of course, this is perfectly compatible with every religious tradition. All of the rest of the (Christian) tradition is secondary to this, and to fight about the minutia is to miss the whole. Peace and Love
Varuna, I disagree. A Christian is by definition someone who believes Jesus died on the cross to remove their sin. To ignore this is to miss the meaning of the religion. As Jews, we have Christians pretending to be Jews in order to missionize to us. It's a horrible situation. "Love your neighbor" is one of the mitzvot in Judaism and Rabbi Hillel states the golden rule in the converse. Someone came and asked him to teach all of Torah standing on one foot so he said, "That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow. That's the whole Torah. The rest is commentary. Now go and learn it." There is nothing Jesus has to offer that cannot be found in our tradition. We have our own tzaddikim, our own maxims, our own way to live righeously. We have no use for Jesus. Dauer
Varuna, In addition, the scholars trying to find the historical Jesus have come up with 5 different versions or so and it seems that all of this scholarship is nothing more than midrash. They find what is relevant to them, the person they want to find. That's why some say he was a loner, some a married man. Some say he was a pacifist. Some say he wanted to fight Rome. And the list goes on. Dauer
I am saying that there is evidence which contradicts what you said. I don't believe that simply because g-d and a human had a discussion it makes them of equal importance or ability. I think the question is are you reconsidering your wording,or your definition, or your argument, or are you going to dismiss it?
What I said was that Allah(may he be exalted) is perfect, are you claiming that you have found evidence for the contrary? I have to follow the advice of my prophet(peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) concerning you scriptures, I neither call it a lie if it sounds ok nor do I approve of all of it. Some things written in your scriptures are quite horroble agains the honored prophets sent by the lord, I just won´t believe that Lot(peace be upon him) got drunk and slept with his daughters nor that a prophet stole nor that David(peace be upon him) the king of the children of israeel would have sex with a woman outside marriage whom he saw bathing naked then plot to kill her husband, this is the greatest of men and such things are not to be said about them. My point being, about some stories in the Bible I have a hard time calling time lies and even more difficult to call them truth. Allah(may he be exalted) is perfect, and I'm wondering if you are suggesting something else?
Yeshua Ben Joseph was a Rabbi, according to the NT. Do most Jewish people believe he was a real character from history or fictional? I have read two books proposing he never lived, and was made up. If Abraham is common to all 3 faiths, do you envision a day when all 3 are accepting of each other and harmoniously living as friends? I sure hope so. Abraham is the common thread, so that is a good ice breaker.....opinions?
I think that if we decided nothing happened since abraham, all 3 could unite. Bar that, it's like combining mercury, oil and water together if you try to get most of each group to combine. The old arguments would start up. Respect is the best we can hope for.
The differences are to wide, we find that the christians worship Jesus(peace be upon him) something which jews and muslims find as a great error while the jews deny the messiah and have a quite record of killing what christians and muslims would call prophets and then finally we have muslims who believe in a prophet while both the christians and jews reject. The only way I can see it would work was if he we all would follow the way of Abraham(peace be upon him), which was submission to Allah(may he be exalted) which is the meaning of the word islam. 3.65 Ye People of the Book! Why dispute ye about Abraham, when the Law and the Gospel Were not revealed Till after him? Have ye no understanding? 3.66 Ah! Ye are those who fell to disputing (Even) in matters of which ye had some knowledge! but why dispute ye in matters of which ye have no knowledge? It is Allah Who knows, and ye who know not! 3.67 Abraham was not a Jew nor yet a Christian; but he was true in Faith, and bowed his will to Allah's (Which is Islam), and he joined not gods with Allah.[Quran Al-Imraan] They say: "Become Jews or Christians if ye would be guided (To salvation)." Say thou: "Nay! (I would rather) the Religion of Abraham the True, and he joined not gods with Allah." [Quran Al-Baqarah] Then, We have sent the revelation to you: "Follow the religion of Ibrahim[Abraham] (he was a) Hanif, and he was not one of the idolators.''[Quran Nahl] Say: "O People of the Book! come to common terms as between us and you: That we worship none but Allah; that we associate no partners with him; that we erect not, from among ourselves, Lords and patrons other than Allah." If then they turn back, say ye: "Bear witness that we (at least) are Muslims (bowing to Allah's Will).[Quran Al Imraan] Disarm, kindly answer my last post sense I would like to know your view on this matter.
Personally, I don't believe that g-d is perfect, but this is a difference in our perception of what g-d is and I'm not interested in arguing over which perception is better. When one comes into a multi religious discussion, it should really be expected that all holy books are treated equally (whether we do or don't believe they should be), because otherwise it will just come down to a matter of faith. The point that you were arguing at the time was that g-d is incomparable.. this is not necessarily disputed but your belief of what makes something incomparable is a bit odd to me. I'll be bigheaded for a moment and say that my knowledge on glass was incomparable. If someone argued with me on a matter concerning glass, it doesn't threaten the incomparable status of my knowledge. Some people always get onto christians about not looking further and questioning, if we can't look further and question our g-d then what g-d is this? I can ask whichever g-d you want, right now, anything you want. I've done it. Am I threatening their status? Have I detracted from their g-dliness? Big ups to g-d for answering back in the bible. Anyway, in judaism, g-d has been questioned, and g-d has answered, this does nothing to His status whatsoever in my eyes. When I made this point all I was trying to do was tell you.
To the first part of your question: it's not a religious issue for Jews so I'd say whatever any individual Jew believes, it's probably informed by scholarship. But scholarship is so divided on that so there's plenty of room for disagreement. It's not really important for us to feel a certain way about that issue. To the second: Who knows? I hope so. But we will all probably be dead by the time that happens globally. Dauer
Well it says he rested on the seventh day and got refreshed, one needs only to rest and to be refreshed after have being tired. I did not understand you correctly here, the laws of physics does not allow the sea to be split into two parts nor that one can control the wind and understand the speech of animals like Solomon(peace be upon him). I was wondering if jews like many christians believe that Allah(may he be exalted) is everywhere or above the sky? Disarm, I did not acually know that. Are these views of yours only yours or is it the view of the judaism faith? I´m not starting a debate, I want you to make me understand how Allah(may he be exalted) can regret and feel sorrow after the creation of man And the Lord was sorry that he made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. [he said]: "For I am sorry that I have made them." or why He needed to rest on the sabbath For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. or why He needs to sleep Awake, why do you sleep, O Lord? why someone is burden with the sin of the father I am the Lord, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generations. And the Lord said, "Go through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have you pity. Slay utterly old and young both maids and little children, and woman Explain to me as if I was "5 years" old because appearently we do not posses the some view concerning our Lord.
You are free to believe what you believe. As is everyone else. Actually, a Christian is, by definition, someone who believes Jesus was the Messiah, or, as the Greeks translated it, the Christ. As I am sure you are aware, Messiah or Moshiach - is the realization of God within the context of our common Humanity, a realization of the Human spirit in relation to God, and a reconciliation between God and Man. This is very much alive in modern Judaism. Just a few years ago, Rabbi Schneerson was actively teaching about Moshiach, (as a movement or a social/spiritual phenomenon rather than just as an individual) with the intent of realizing God in Humanity. Of course, like everyone, you are free to believe what you believe. However, I trust your faith is based on more than a mere negation of someone elses beliefs. I would love to hear about what it is that you actually do believe. On behalf of all who speak without knowing, all who "don't know what they are doing," I apologize, for what it's worth. Some variation of the golden rule is taught in every religious tradition. So why do you suppose there are so many "faithful" who insist on fighting about what they do or don't or wont or must or must not believe? So then, what is the difference, if any, between his religion and yours? Then live righteously. And let all others live righteously. Use? I would hope you have no "use" for anyone. He was not a tool, he was a human being. As such, he deserves the same respect that you do. Peace and Love,
According to Genesis God rested by ceasing from exerting creative energies on the universe. On Shabbat, Jews cease from these same types of actions as outlined on this childrens' site -- happens to be a good site for the melachot: http://www.akhlah.com/holidays/shabbat/39/39.php And I am skeptical of any source that claims such things. I ask why they were written that way. Jews have varying views on the nature of God. We all say God's true nature is beyond human language. Those who do not believe God is actually everywhere do believe that God's presence is everywhere. It's a bit of a paradox. There are some modern views about God that are not traditional at all, but many still hold them. I consider this a good thing. The Talmud says that the Torah speaks in the language of man. So if a feeling or human-like action is attributed to God, this is generally understood as being man's understanding of what is happening. These are the verses you're referencing with Rashi -- an important commentator -- commentary: 2. And God completed on the seventh day His work that He did, and He abstained on the seventh day from all His work that He did. And God completed on the seventh day Rabbi Simon said: [A human being of] flesh and blood, who cannot [exactly] know his times and his moments, must add from the profane to the holy [i.e., he must add some time to the Sabbath.] The Holy One, blessed be He, Who knows His times and His moments [exactly], entered it [the Sabbath] within a hairbreadth, and it therefore appeared as if He completed it [His work] on that day. Another explanation: What was the world lacking? Rest. The Sabbath came, and so came rest. The work was completed and finished. „ [from Gen. Rabbah 10:9] 3. And God blessed the seventh day and He hallowed it, for thereon He abstained from all His work that God created to do. Andƒblessedƒand hallowed He blessed it with manna, for on all the days of the week, it descended for them [in the amount of] an omer per person, whereas on the sixth day,[each one received] a double portion. And He hallowed it with manna, that it did not descend at all on the Sabbath. This verse is written with reference to the future. „ [from Gen. Rabbah 11:2] that God created to do The work that was fit to be done on the Sabbath, He doubled up and did it on the sixth [day], as is explained in Genesis Rabbah (11:9). http://www.chabad.org/library/article.asp?AID=8166&showrashi=true Do you think you could include the sources for your quotes? Guessing, I would imagine it was someone asking why God did not act at that moment on their behalf but I really have no idea. The full verse, again with rashi: 7. preserving loving kindness for thousands, forgiving iniquity and rebellion and sin; yet He does not completely clear [of sin] He visits the iniquity of parents on children and children's children, to the third and fourth generations." preserving loving-kindness that a person does before Him. for thousands For two thousand generations. [iniquity and rebellion] Iniquities (????????) are intentional sins. ?????????? are sins committed out of rebellion, which a person commits [in order] to anger [God]. -[from Yoma 36b] yet He does not completely clear [of sin] Heb. ???????? ??? ????????. According to its simple interpretation, it means that He does not completely overlook the iniquity but exacts retribution for it little by little. Our Rabbis, however, interpreted [this expression to mean]: He clears those who repent, but does not clear those who do not repent (from Yoma 86a, targumim). He visits the iniquity of parents on the children when they hold onto the deeds of their parents in their hands [i.e., emulate their ways], for He already explained this in another verse, [that it means only] ñof those who hate Meî (Exod. 20:5). -[from Ber. 7a] and fourth generations Heb. ????? ?????????, the fourth generation. Thus, the [i.e., GodÍs] attribute of goodness exceeds the attribute of retribution by a ratio of one to five hundred. Concerning the attribute of goodness, He says: ñpreserving loving-kindness for thousands.î -[from Tosefta, Sotah 4:1] http://www.chabad.org/library/article.asp?AID=9895&showrashi=true Again, I will need you to cite the source. I am not a traditional Jew and may not be able to give you a traditional response, but I will try if that is what you are looking for.
