Last night I was meditating and out of nowhere a crazy thought came to my head. In reality, humans are just walking this Earth doing what it takes to succeed in our desires. No one really slows down to look at life, and the complexity it offers. What if "sleep" is the actual meaning and purpose for us being alive, yet we still are not advanced/evolved enough to realize it. Every human to ever live experience the same trials/difficulty that comes through every life, but every human being (and species for that matter) needs to sleep. Sleep is crazy if you think about it. Its a moment in time when the body just shuts down and stops working (in your prospective). During the shutdown our brain, the part of our body that allows and guides us through consciousness, is still running and we go through situations where we are flying a fighter jet or running from a monster. (dreams). This is a completely different feeling that every human experiences yet no one seems to talk about. What is our state in sleep is actually much more important than we can conceive? Makes me want to fall asleep as I type this and wake up to continue typing what I experienced. But another creepy thing about sleep is, you wake up and are unable to describe the past 6 hours with any remembrance. Just weird and confusing to me..
Being unable to describe the past 6 hours may only be true for some. I lucid dream and have a dream journal, and recall many dreams when waking up. Sometimes my dreams follow on a couple of nights later. For example, in one dream one night my friend went on a holiday and I said goodbye. A couple nights later in my dream world, I was in the same place welcoming her back. Strange!
Just a few corrections, your body will not shut down as long as you 'occupy it', because our bodies are always taking in prana or energy from the great storehouse (mostly from breathing air).Your body is like a machine that is always running, every part that blood runs through is still in operation even when your asleep. No, the brain doesnt "allow" or "guide" us through consciousness. Us/Me/We/You (all center's of consciousness), guide the brain and body through our existence. We will still be alive and conscious beings without our brains or bodies. just thought id point that out. There have been plenty studies done on the sleeping state of humans, google some. I think you would really like the book "The Art of Dreaming" by Carlos Casteneda.
Dude I love what you're saying Fishy. I think of dreams as the 4th dimension. Maybe it is and we haven't realised it yet? The 4th dimension is time, and in a dream state time and space have no boundaries, you can go back in time, go forward, skip, teleport, transform... imagination and subconscious have no boundaries and these are the boundaries of dreams. Boundless? Of course our physical bodies are still in the physical, 3rd dimension, but what if our souls ascend to the 4th dimension simultaneously. Sleep is a mystery, after all!
How could you go back in time when there is only a now? you cant even do it in your dreams because time doesnt exist! id say our waking state is just as much boundless as dreaming, but when were awake, all our notions on how the world works come back and were stuck in the same place again. But for some reason when were dreaming, all our pre-conditioned thoughts are left behind and were free! Makes you kinda think that being awake or dreaming, its pretty much the same trip. Dreams are just there to show us how enslaved our own minds are. (in the the waking state that is)
