There's definitely newer music I've discovered that's just as good, artistic and pioneering as any 60's music. It's actually given me a lot of hope for the future.

I highly recommend you check out Animal Collective if you want something intensely psychedelic. Can't get these guys out of my head. If you're familiar with psychedelic music along the lines of Pink Floyd's "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn", I think you'll love them. Their sound is completely different, but they both share very layered, pioneering, experimental psychedelic pop elements. That's why I tend to make the comparison, even though no one else sounds like them. And they definitely have the right vibes. I made a thread in the psychedelic music section where you can hear a couple of Animal Collective albums.

There's also Grizzly Bear if you want some cosmic, laidback beauty. Their "Veckatimest" album is a masterpiece. And Fleet Foxes have very beautifully unique folk.

I love plenty of different genres and music from different time periods, but it all started from my interest in 60's music, and I'd have to say that's the center of where my heart lies. But remember, even though most stuff today is crap, there are still amazing artists putting out unique masterpieces. You just have to look for them.

    You're welcome. :) Don't forget Fleet Foxes.

And if you don't like Animal Collective at first, give it some time. I really didn't like them at first myself, but then eventually something clicked. The ganja really helps. I view their work as truly pioneering, and I love their lyrics, too. Non-materialism, not judging others, enjoying life, maintaining one's child-like qualities, etc. The music they make isn't electronic-only, either. They have albums with guitar, and even an acoustic-based one.
