Howdy all from a Texan living in Egypt. I'm barefoot except at work, almost 100% of the time. I have been amazed at how accepted this has been in Egypt. While I have had some polite questions asked as to why I am doing the barefoot thing, I have never been refused entrance into a business, resturant, bar, nothing. In more ways than this, I'm much more free in Egypt than I am in my own country. I'm still having problems getting used to the asphalt surface temperatures during the summer here. Concrete is not a problem but this dark asphalt at damn near melting point is something I have not gotten used to.:sultan:
Friend: You visited an islamic country. For Muslims, to go barefoot, is most natural thing. If Muslim (Christians normally are not allowed to enter), it is inclusively your duty to enter a mesquita (islamic temple) barfooot. To use shoes within is a sin. Allah loves people to stay barefoot. Yours truly: Toivo
Thanks Toivo, I understood that about entering the Mosque but beyond that, I was pleased at how accepting the Egyptians as a whole have been about not only my going barefoot but about me in general. Tattoos, pierced ear, etc. But I have worked in several Islamic countries and have had nothing but great experiences. That is why I am back after completing a previous project over here. I have more, and closer friends in Egypt than back in Texas. I intend on being here a long time....barefoot. :sunny:
Friend: Muslims generally are good people. The all work very hard (I observe foreign islamic workes and I am amazed). To think muslims are all fanatic and terrorists is like go on saying: all Germans eat Sauerkraut and are Nazis: purely stupidness. Furthermore: the way, we all (Americans and Europeans) have treated them in the past, how could they have a different impression than that we were all amoung the Devil? Is our fault, too, not only theirs. Greetings: Toivo
