This is for real. They're already getting things moving towards getting this done. They already have suppliers for all the components needed lined up.

No tax payer money involved. All you need to do is watch it all happening on live TV.

    I'll watch that show.

Maybe by 2084, Douglas Quaid will be running around on mars, for real this time, lol.

Side Note: In case you haven't heard, TOTAL RECALL (a remake of the 1990 film) - In Theaters August 3 2012. A sci-fi action adventure starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale & Jessica Biel.

    I love Kate Beckinsale!!

I wouldn't want to be there in this human life form.

That would be pretty scary depending on people from Earth for resources.

How would human life on Mars be fully self sustaining without reliance on shipments from Earth?

How would they have oxygen? I don't believe there are trees there.
When their o2 machines break then what?

Tha Tha Tha Tha Tha That's ALL Folks!

I think the first colonies would struggle for life for sure and be dependant on earth shipments for everything . Including pre fab housing and green houses with life support .

I don't think there are any trees there . But a massive project would have to be undertaken to plant forrests and plants to change the atmosphere from co2 to oxygen . But yeah in the beginning it would be really hostile to human life . Who would be dependant on earth engineering and shipments . And on this crazy unstable planet in economic crisis, short cuts , and never ending increasing warfare I sure as hell wouldn't want to take the risk .

What would you do there all day? It would be so boring.

Also, using the internet would be such a hassle. There would be an sixteen second delay between typing something and it appearing on your screen due to the distances involved.

there would be no delay between typing. typing is all local information.

there would have to be some other sort of network put in place for communication. "the internet" would not exist on mars.

and of COURSE there are no trees on mars...are we forgetting that we have never discovered life anywhere else but on Earth?

it is highly improbable that we will see human COLONIZATION of mars by 2023. for that to happen, we would have to colonize the moon first (realistically) and we just cut NASA. thankfully there ARE private party space programs. hopefully they will seek to put man'd missions back to the moon.

if we were to colonize mars by 2023, we would have already been LOOOOOOONG down the line of preparing for this. that is in 11 years, something of that importance could take 50 years easily to prepare for.

We can't even fix the planet we already live on and they're talking about having a fucking reality show on Mars? lulz. People complain about spending trillions on unimportant things, how much would -that- cost?

The last scene on Earth in the year 3000 will be all the life on the planet lying dead while all the household TVs in the world tuned to "Temptation Mars".

Hopefully they will have the actual technology where they won't have to fake it.

On second thought, are they NUTS!? America is in a fucking economic crisis! Geeze, they're like irresponsible children.

"Human colonization of Mars" = 5 astronauts might be able make it there to take samples.

The bad thing is, with all of today's technology, we won't really know for sure if they fake it or not.
