China has just announced it is sending a dozen ships to Syria along with Iranian and Russian ships to engage in maneuvers that can stop western plans to put a no-fly zone over Syria. This would be the first time Russia, China and Iran are all involved together in joint maneuvers in the mideast with 90,000 personnel, 400 air planes and 900 tanks. Is this show of force a threat to the western and arab powers who are plotting the overthrow of Bashir Assad? Or are they going there to remove personnel and material that they don't want to be endangered should Assad fall? The ships will join up at the Syrian port of Tartus which is now under Russian control. I had heard before that Russian ships are headed for Tartus and the assumption was to secure the naval port.. 90,000 troops seems a little large for that now though
I am skeptical of Iranian claims. Such posturing could actually have a calming effect in that with direct Russian involvement on the ground it might preclude the temptation to proxy engagement. In the same turn the Russians are duplicitous in saying no military intervention on behalf of Syrian civilians yet see no problem in using military assets to ostensibly, "protect Russian citizens", living in Syria. I am hard pressed to understand China's position if the report turns out to be true, unless it simply be an alliance to try and stem the tide of western influence on world affairs. That is I doubt that they seek to protect the will of the Syrian people to settle their own affairs.
They're just trying to protect their "investments" in Syria. I have a theory that a number of countries including Iraq, Russia, China and maybe North Korea have not only assisted Syria militarily, but they may have also stashed chemical and other weapons not allowed by International treaties in Syria. I've heard Syria has the world's largest collection of chemical weapons. How such a relatively small country could create such an arsenal and why is hard to figure. Remember when Saddam was falling, he sent a lot of weaponry to Syria and planes to Iran. Some people suggested Saddam sent his chemical weapons to Syria so the US wouldn't find them. So perhaps it's true that Syria is a repository for chemical weapons from other countries...
This and flexing muscle to show the west where the boundaries are. China and Russia as well as the US and Europe know that there will not be military intervention on this from the west. The unknown factor - as always - is Israel, not only in regards to Syria but also Iran.
You ain't seen nothin' yet. Don't change that channel! See the new story about Syria shooting down a Turkish jet....
That's exactly the case-Russia and China are getting closer all the time, and it's a little scary if you ask me.
I'm sure everyone is worried about the chemical weapons falling into the wrong hands (like Al-Qaeda or other terror groups). Russia and China have been victims of terror in recent years and chemical weapons on the loose is nobody's ideal situation. So hopefully they'll defend those installations. They better cause if anything comes out of there, the Israelis have threatened to take action and wipe them out. Now that could release a lot of chemicals if that were to occur... Best case scenario is for the Russians to come in and remove all the chemical weapons stored in Syria... haha, like Assad would let them go, just when he might need them the most.
Hey Obama! Unlike Iraq, Syria doesn't just have the "ability" to create WMD, they have tons and tons of them ready to go! So if that was the true reason behind the invasion of Iraq, what's stopping Obama from invading Syria? Oh, yeah that's right, Syria is no pushover like Iraq was, and with Russia there to defend it, it's not going to be a picnic. Just shows you what a BULLY the US is, and when push comes to shove, if there's no profit to be made by the US CORPORATE government, then there really is no incentive to go to war cause the lives of women and children mean absolutely nothing to Corporate America's bottom line. And the US is Such a BIG BULLY it won't attack anyone who can actually FIGHT BACK and inflict major damage on US forces. NO! The US picks out the WEAKEST ENEMIES it has to attack. We won't even go after Iran, even when they held US hostages way back when. We kill from 30,000 feet or much closer using unmanned drones. The US is a cowardly bully when it can't even fight face to face. The US is nothing but a paper tiger anymore, and I guess the Russians and Chinese are going to prove that. US can't do shit without the support of its fawning poodles, the UK and NATO.
