Good thing we have our tents and camping supplies. We'll be moving to tent city, when the bastards take all of our rent money to pay for their mandatory health care tax. Being homeless working folks, we're gonna need the extra health care.
It's not a bad idea. "I'm not going to treat you because you don't have enough money" is the exact opposite of the Hippocratic Oath that medical graduates are required to take. At the very least they should be struck off the medical board.
But doctors don't do that. Do you even know what you're talking about? Hospitals don't refuse treatment. If so, go to any emergency room in any major city and tell me most of the people there have health insurance. Is anyone turning them away?
Do you even know what you're talking about? Now with Obama care EVERYONE can get CHECKUPS, which those without insurance could not afford. Nothing to do with emergency care! This means people like ME and millions of others won't waiting until a problem becomes a major crisis requiring an emergency room visit which YOU would have to pay for in YOUR TAXES. And now children can be under their parents insurance until the age of 26, which means college students don't have to pay health insurance, which they can hardly afford given the ever rising costs of tuition and books. And Insurance companies can no longer reject your claim due to pre-existing conditions. Rat I guess you never had to deal with getting your claim rejected by a health insurance company and told that despite all the money you've paid in and will pay, you just don't qualify to get that new kidney or lung or heart transplant, so YOU MUST DIE, or steal money to live. I just love all these KNOW IT ALLS who have never even lived in another country, never got to see how well UNIVERSAL health care works in countries like Germany, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, France, etc. In those countries (which also give their citizens at least 6 weeks paid vacation and maternity leave and sick leave) health is a priority and their social system works well for everyone (SOCIALISM IS GOOD!), and people aren't brainwashed into thinking EVERYONE has to take care of themselves like it's survival of the fucking fittest. American' naivete regarding health care and Socialism is fucking amazing. The lies they believe about it are drilled into their heads from Right Wing websites which CARE NOTHING about the PEOPLE and only about CORPORATE PROFITS. Health care ISN'T and SHOULDN'T be a political issue, but it certainly is cause everything OBAMA does is considered WRONG, no matter what by the brainwashed masses, and you only prove how brainwashed you are when you spout the identical lies heard on Faux News over and over.
Yet Obama and all the corporate interests that control him and back "his" health care agenda care about people? Really? Or is it just another tyrannical, nanny-state power grab, and another way to rob people of the actual freedoms they have left in this country as the government takes more more power for itself, dictating how you live your life and where your money goes? To me, there are only two choices: freedom or government. When you make people fat, dumb and happy, they have no qualms about the government meddling in every facet of their lives.
can you give an example of a single country in the world where the people enjoy a good quality of life without a functioning government? all of the countries i know of without any functioning government have significantly lower life expectancies and general health than the countries in the world with elected, socialist leaning governments.
All I am saying is that the bigger government becomes, the more freedoms people lose. This has proven true time and time again. It has also been shown that governments deliberately create problems to trigger a reaction in the public, so they will accept more government intervention to solve or eliminate the very same problems the government helped create in the first place. This snowballs until we have what we have today, which is a tyrannical, fascistic, nanny-state government that's totally unaccountable to the people in every way, shape and form. Nothing gets better -- only worse. People have been brainwashed, thanks to the US school system and corporate media, to believe government is the solution to anything and everything. That is why the US is nothing more than a nation of fat decadent slobs who are content to watch American Dildo as the world burns. Just look at how education in America has declined since the Federal government took control over it in 1980 with the creation of the Department of Education. When has the government, let alone the US government, been capable of doing ANYTHING that actually works in the people's interests? This will turn out to be a total disaster, just like everything else the government gets involved in. Time will prove me right again. This I am certain of.
No, because there is too much dependency (created by government) in the world for things to function without governments at this point. I never said anything about not having a functioning government, though I would be fine with no government at all. Also, what is your definition of a "functioning government"? A police state like the US? An Orwellian nanny-state like the Scandinavian countries? An even more Orwellian surveillance-nanny state like the UK? If I lived in a country where the government runs my life (like America and every other Western nation), I wouldn't care much about how long I lived. I would prefer to live free and die young than live to an old age in a soma-induced coma in Huxley's Brave New World.
i think your paranoia clouds your view of reality so much that you won't ever be happy with anything, even something that has clearly worked for most countries that have implemented it. socialized health care ensures that people have access to healthcare, no matter who their parents are or how much money they earn. is 'obamacare' perfect? far from it, but as least it's better than what it replaced. government run healthcare (healthcare run by the representatives that the citizenry elects to represent their interests) works much better than corporate run healthcare.
(you edited your post a bunch after I posted my reply, so my earlier reply is just to the first part of your post) is this truly how you view countries like Canada? if it is, you're completely delusional.
Government is the corporations and the corporations are the government. It's a corporatist system. It's all one entity. This is something so many of you don't get. You believe all this half-assed shit about government reigning the corporations in, when in fact those corporations run the fucking government. It's all corporate. Government is for the corporations, by the corporations. Period. When you champion the government to run your life, really you're calling for the corporations which run the government to run your life. Obama is a corporate tool. His health care agenda is sponsored by (SCRATCH THAT, DRAFTED BY) corporate interests. Why do you people not fucking grasp this? How many hours do some of you sit in front of the TV? Do you analyze anything for yourselves? You're caught up that that infantile left vs. right dialectic. It's all the same fucking shit!!!!! WOW!!! The government does not fucking care about you? They don't care if you have health care or die in a fucking ditch, but they prefer the latter, as long as they can rob you of everything you have on the way out.
it might be the same shit in your fucked up country, but things in the rest of the world work much differently.
That's what's it all about right? MONEY. That's all you care about. YOURSELF, YOUR MONEY. Nothing else matters politically, right? Well under the previous system you paid MORE IN TAXES to cover the uninsured for emergency room visits and other health care. Or are you just not smart enough to understand that when others pay their fair share of health insurance taxes, YOU WON'T HAVE TO COVER THEIR ASSES anymore, or don't you get that? This saves YOU MONEY. That precious thing that you worship even more than the freedoms you spout about, but never quite understand.
pressed rat, if you have insurance through your work, you were already paying for uninsured people to get treatment, like skip just said. but to those that are pointing out that socialized health care works in scandanavia, and other european countries....their populations are a lot smaller than ours. it's not a good comparison.
Population in a matter like this means nothing. If anything, it means we should be able to make nationalized health care even more effective because of how much tax money we can raise. It's a matter of how much it costs to keep that individual healthy, and just based on how we Americans live every day, I can't imagine it being nearly as expensive to keep people alive in countries with less lifestyle diseases ravaging their country. Diabetes, heart disease and stroke, smoking, alcoholism, etc. are rampant, not to mention how much less on average that Americans exercise compared to most of the world, and the people who don't die of these numerous diseases grow to be VERY old and rack up ridiculous medical bills keeping themselves alive. The American health system, like almost all large-scale companies in this country, is completely broken, and to blame the people who want to give people like myself an opportunity to not bury themselves into debt senselessly by giving them health coverage is non-sense. Nationalized health care works because, in most other countries, the medical field isn't a ridiculously inflated entity. Don't blame the people for creating a system to help the people who can't afford health coverage, blame the people who made health care so unaffordable and fucked up in the first place, because you pay too much when you get sick, and you will pay when other people get sick, so you might as well pay less either way.
