Safe Movie Blurb by Shale May 13, 2012 This movie opened two weeks ago but I just got around to seeing it. (It's been raining a lot - I haven't got out as much). It is an action/adventure flick staring Jason Statham, one of those ruggedly handsome guys who you want on your side if going into a dangerous situation. The Last Thing Seen by Bad Guys The story centers around Mei (Catherine Chan) a precocious Chinese girl who can instantly memorize whole sheets of numbers. She is grabbed by gangsters in China to transport codes because it leaves no computer trail. Mei is in NYC working with the brutal Chinese mob when she is grabbed by the equally brutal Russian Mob who wants the codes to a safe combination she holds. Add New York's Finest, also brutal and on the take, and there is nothing but bad guys all around. That is Mei's story. Also playing out is Luke's (Statham) story where he is doing penance by being beat up in cage fights, but wins the wrong one that the Russian Mob had bet against. They mess up his life, give him no reason to live but let him live homeless and beaten in NYC. Luke Homeless and Defeated He is about to jump in front of a subway train when he sees Mei who has escaped from the Russians, being pursued by the brutes that once worked him over. He gets out of his funk and cleans up some bad guys. Luke Homeless But in the Game Luke rescues Mei from that ordeal but it ain't over. Like I said, this movie is action and that is pretty much what goes on for the rest of it as Mei and Luke battle Russian and Chinese Mobs and the crooked police. Mei & Luke on the Run Some reviewer called this a B-movie thriller. I thot it was rather nicely made. Loved the opening with flashbacks inside flashbacks and how it implied much of the story without actually showing it. But yeah, it was one of those kinda movies - one that I thoroly enjoyed tho.
Watched it about three times in three days and then went out to the movies to see it. Not a great film, but very solid.
