I'm originally from London, and although I have never been to New York (or any other part of America), I've always seen the two cities as being similar. New Yorkers, like Londoners, are supposed to be witty, sophisticated, fast living and brash, and both cities are the place to go if you want to make money or be accepted as unconventional. Do you agree? If you have connections with both, or have lived in one and visited the other, how would you compare and contrast them, other than that one is a political capital and the other isn't?

There are obvious similarities between London's East End and the Lower East Side. Both are traditionally associated with immigrants, poverty and slums, but have since been widely gentrified and are now tourist attractions.
