France says goodbye to the Minitel, which first rolled out in 1982, way before the World Wide Web. It was a terminal which was given FREE to every French household. It enabled them to check train schedules, bank balances, and even have virtual sex. Many French households didn't bother to buy computers for many years and instead relied upon the Minitel to keep them connected and informed.
