Scientists at a couple of Big Pharma companies are researching the effects of Ketamine on chronic depression. They found it can relieve serious depression within a day, instead of the weeks it takes for anti-depressants to take effect.

This can be especially important when the patient is suicidal and needs immediate help.

It may be useful for sucidal situations but ketamine is no better than alcohol for relieving depression in my experience and if anyhting prompted suicidal ideation for me. Basically the way I interpret their findings is it 'gets you high.' Ketamine can be wickedly addicting as well, its already used in certain situations in medicine so I think some manufacturers of ketamine have their pocketbooks funding some of this research, especially after crack downs and raised prices in pharmacies in recent years due to it's illicit use. I know there are some groups working on a non-psychoactive version of ketamine, I guess we'll see how that pans out.

Weed is a healthier choice for a general mood lift and Id speculate DMT and/or Salvia Divinorum could provide similar outcomes for sucidal situations, perhaps even more efficiently than ketamine under supervised circumstances.

I like the way they likened Ketamine's effects to that of Electroshock therapy!

I'd never heard that electric shocks help your brain cells grow. I'd always thought that it kills brain cells, and rearranges others. That doesn't mean it helps anything "grow".

There's definitely something about ketamine that does this. I don't take it often, but when I do, if the trips are pleasant ones (and that's not always the case), my mood is elevated for weeks afterwards. I'm usually a reasonably happy guy anyway, but I remember one particular time a few months back when I'd taken ketamine and the next day I was walking down the street and smiling at strangers as we passed. Nobody does that here in Britain.

I could possibly see why, I had my "ket epiphany" the other week.. it's a really happy drug, previously I just got really thrashed and there was no real emotion to it at all. From that moment every line of K just stuck me in such a happy mood. Messy.. but really, really happy because I just didn't give a shit about anything.

Crazy shit though, I would never have previously thought K to be picked for an anti depressant.. just seems strange that it could change you that much.

Long term, it becomes a addiction, and becomes more of a depressant. Daily year binges are no fun. At all.

Have you ever seen someone who takes too much K???

They don't look terribly happy/motivated/intelligent, plus the lights are on but no ones home.

    Best avoided, I think.

I dont think for medical use they are going to tell a person to 'take too much k".

That's not what I'm saying. I just don't like the drug.

But people would abuse it if it was available on prescription, for sure. Same as they do with a whole host of other drugs.

    This is from the article:

Those effects sound like a k hole 'too much k' dose that wiccan is referring too and it's being given to them intravenously too.

Fuck doctors. They are responsible for most suicides by reinforcing the demand for permanent happiness that we seem to have gained. If you're not happy 24/7 you're not normal. Animals don't have this need.

Ya well that isnt really too much. SOMETIMES a desired effect to get that feeling. Also, maybe that is the amount needed to help alleviate depression in some?

Ketamine IVed is pretty wild. haha :2thumbsup:

I'm gonna have to disagree with that study a lot. It may work for immediate response as GB said for suicidal patients, but I know many a person who have lost their life's to the addiction of this chemical..

you could say that about too much of anything though, people can use it sensibly like anything else.

I respectfully beg to differ. :) K is highly addictive, and can cause a lot of nasty long term effects.

Of course too much of anything is bad, but I guess what I am trying to say, is with something like K, there is a higher danger of becoming addicted, and a worse outcome if you do - vs say too drinking too much soft drink or eating too much chocolate.

Yep, seen the "dust bunnies" who will do anything for a bump of K plenty of times. It really gets a ahold of some people. I am VERY careful with it, the K hole is very enticing.

Good to see you back Lotus, you went a while without posting.

I think this might have had something to do with his near death experience rather than what he was taking.
