The rebels are the ones who don't want to negotiate. I think syrians are better off with a transitional government than simply handing over the power to the rebels.

Are the new military capabilities of Syria strong enough? If the Talks will fail and the war actually break out, people who suffer from the war are still Syrian.Does it have any effect to other foreigners?

UPDATE 7/16: Syrian Generals Defect enmasse! Assad Warned against moving anymore WMD! General Assassinated in Allepo.

    http://www.debka.com/article/22182/...ng-to-stop-moving-his-WMD-Top-generals-defect

It seems as soon as the Red Cross declared the conflict in Syria to be a Civil War, a whole handful of generals close to Assad have all defected to Turkey. This is because they can all now be tried for crimes against humanity, ESPECIALLY if they were to unleash WMD against a civilian population. That would make the generals and Assad like Saddam Hussein, reviled around the world for the use of WMD against his own people.

I'm counting at least seven generals who defected together more or less plus the one assassination. These generals were in charge of the Shabiba militia who are the ones terrorizing the citizenry with horrific crimes and mass murder. Some were very close to Assad.

So this definitely weakens Assad, and no doubt has sent a chill down the spine of his entire military. There must be many more officers ready to defect now. Time is running out for Assad. The only question is how desperate will he be?

The Western powers have indicated they will attack any WMDs that get moved again.

Syria has some of the latest Russian weapons which can neutralize the West's weapons or overcome their defenses. They also have possibly the largest stash of biological and chemical weapons in the world. They have not signed onto any treaty limiting their use.

And with today's news that Syria has been threatened by the West if they move any WMD again, it's a big deal. They've been moving around their WMD the past week.

My guess is Assad ordered the use of WMD, and the generals are fleeing rather than follow those orders.

that site, debka.com, is very pro-Israel. (not saying that's a bad thing)
Is the news reliable or biased and skewed?
I also noticed it says they defected on Sun, July 17.
bad typos like that don't instill confidence in the veracity of the content.

Not saying it isn't correct or reliable, but it does raise some questions about maybe having a bit more discernment over what they report.

Oh yes, Debka is an alarmist publication. But I like it cause many times they scoop everyone else. Sometimes they do publish some misinformation. I'm not sure if that's on purpose or what. They have so many connections with the Israeli military and intelligence services, it's hard to determine what lies they are being fed for what purposes.

However, often the info is right on, and really sheds light on what is going on behind the scenes that newspapers fail to cover.

Occasionally they flub a date, and I've had to call them on it before. In fact, since I visit the site daily, I've also had to clue them into several programming errors that produced problems with their pages on Firefox. I figure they don't use Firefox and so never noticed the problems.

I think their bias towards the Israeli people is obvious, as it's an Israeli website. But I also find much of their reporting to be relatively unbiased, just a report of the facts at hand.

What you have to take with a grain of salt are their summaries which as I said tend to be alarmist, projecting the worst scenarios of what could happen. But then again those scenarios might come about if cooler heads don't prevail.

Debka also takes the Israeli military to task, often criticizing their actions, as well as the politicians.

Let's not forget their stockpiles of Cyanide and Anthrax!!!

And I think at this point, we should all be breathing a sigh of relief that the Israelis took out their Nuke Plant a few years ago!
