Oral sex is just that - licking / sucking someone's genitals. So if a blow job always sounds like you just blowing on someone's genitals then why is it also referred to as oral sex as well? Is it because one act leads to the other? Just curious as to where / how this 'blow job' term originated?
I have no idea, but when I was a teenager I thought it was when a girl blew air on your cock. A few times I stood naked in front of a fan to see what the big deal was. If only I had had the internet then...
Probably cause suck job or lick job sounds retarded. Probably because whoever is going down needs to breathe through their mouth If you're not making any noise with your mouth, you're not giving good blowjobs.
It is sexual activity with the mouth, therefore oral sex. Blow job... That is a good question. This is probably wrong, but because we can blow your mind? Had to try.
w.r.t. the verb, to cum, I believe the answer lies in the Germanic origins of the English language, where e.g. in Dutch, 'komen' is a modern day abreviated form of the expression 'klaar komen' - which translates literally as something like 'coming to a finish', which is like the 'proper' way of referring to the act of cumming. The origins of the term 'blowjob' I have no idea, though I suspect the term to stem from a figurative expression. Across different cultures, the act of fellatio is described in variations of 'playing the flute' - again, in Dutch, which is all I know, pijpen means something like 'playing an organ', the double entendre of which translates quite well into the English. I don't know, maybe I'm weird like that, but I'm very much interested in these kind of questions also because of what it might reveal about the sexual mores of earlier times. Like as easy as kids now are about, not only talking of, but actually sucking dick, deep-throating, swallowing cum , etc. - I think there's an overwhelming consensus among the under 25 generation that not to engage in oral sex to the finish is bad form - you have to appreciate just how taboo this act was for, let's say, up until the 1960s. Of course it was done, but because sex as a whole was still very much in the order of reproduction, it was surely not uncommon for a man to live a life without ever experiencing the pleasure that is a good, sloppy blowjob to the finish. To me, that's a very sad thought, but then I see so many miserable assholes every day who I'm thinking haven't come out winners of the sexual revolution either. I'm thinking the cultural taboo is coded in the literally incorrect descriptive expression.
4 theories from Google.... 1 It comes from the term "blowsy" being Victorian English for a prostitute. A blowsy job becomes a blow job. 2 Below job. Self explanatory. 3 Blow as in to play an instrument of similar shape (such as a flute) 4 Blowing off steam, similar to one theory already mentioned.
Semantically, I cannot see where "blow" comes from, as blowing cool air on my throbbing dick will tend to send the blood away from the cavernous tissue. "Job" makes sense, since women should invariably suck my cock if they are to receive some due compensation (e.g., birthday presents, weekend getaways, etc.) for the sinister act. I propose the term "penis suck" to make the act perfectly clear.
Pretty sure it originated from an earlier form of English where blow basically meant prostitute, and at the time it was deemed as a service only a prostitute would provide.
