to smoke marijuana instead of taking painkillers!

I had an appointment with my pain doctor today - a follow-up from another unsuccessful procedure to treat some of my chronic pain. I told him that my narcotics were not strong enough. He said he could give me another med. I said no, I don't want to try anything else because the side effects from what I was taking were bad enough. Something stronger could just mean more side effects, which were worse than the pain I had. I've tried non-addictive pain meds and they didn't work. I can't take any type of NSAID.

Then I said i wished I lived in California (under my breath). He asked, "marijuana?" and I said YES and started crying. I told him that before I started seeing him that I used it for pain and it worked. But when I started seeing him I had to sign a form saying I could be drug tested at any time and if I tested positive for anything I would be fired as a patient, so I stopped smoking. He said "nevermind", about the contract I signed and as long as he wasn't given me narcotics, I would NOT be tested. He literally said this to me:

"If marijuana helps your pain, I'm not going to tell you to not use it. Do whatever you need to do to help your pain. I'd rather you not be on narcotics, but that is all I can prescribe you."

He couldn't come out and actually TELL ME to smoke pot, but basically that's what he did! (And if you ask my husband, he thinks the doc actually DID tell me to go ahead and start smoking again.)

Not actually lucky because I'm still on my own when it comes to obtaining it.

I wish MMJ was legal here. Only my best friend and my family know I smoke and I honestly feel like I have a less than 1% chance of getting busted. The bad news is that the medical grade stuff I used to have access to is no longer accessible and I only have a few weeks left of my old supply. Luckily my friend is in the same boat as me so we're working on a plan. She used to grow at home. Maybe I need to temporarily take up residence in another state...

I don't know if my doc would ever say that but then it is not legal here. Living with chronic pain is so not fun.

I jinxed myself. While smoking is helping with the pain, it hasn't help with my insomnia. You'd think after 2 nights in a row of smoking before bed, I would have had more than a few hours sleep. I think I have a more serious insomnia problem than originally thought. (It's not pain related although of course I you can't sleep because of pain, that doesn't help either!)

I stopped almost all my meds the other week because too many were adding to my insomnia but it didn't get better. It got worse. And now I still can't sleep. Wish I lived where it was legal and someone could advise me the best type to use. Here, if I were to buy some illegally, I would have no way of knowing what it is or where it came from. Either you can get it or you can't. No names or choices.

I thought the stuff I had left from was medical quality but I realize now that what I have is from my latest attempt to be self-sufficient in an unusual way. I have no idea what this is. I guess I didn't use much of this before my insomnia got worse. Usually most stains make me sleepy...

It was not directly and has been in the freezer. Maybe that has something to do with it. Or else I'm not smoking enough... I'm trying to only use it when I NEED it not when I WANT it.

don't freeze it, it makes all the trichomes fall off. putting it in an airtight jar in a dark, dry place is enough.

you might have a sativa heavy strain, it would make it difficult to fall asleep and be less effective for pain. maybe a road trip to a MMJ state that doesn't ask a lot of questions? i know in california they'll give a card to anyone, even non-US residents, but that's a pretty long drive.

i put myself back on pain meds, but at a smaller dose than Rx'd. he never took my old ones, even though "pill counts" were mandatory at every appointment (according to the contract). it's helping just enough that i'm not totally miserable and so far the side effects have been less. i'm only taking them twice a day when i can't take it any longer. i'm used to living with some pain and my tolerance has grown, although not as fast as the pain has been growing.

17 years ago i had a doctor who said he'd operate on my spine when it got to the point i couldn't take the pain any longer. i think i've been at that point for a while now, but i keep pushing it off. partly because i know that surgery may not only do absolutely nothing but actually increase my pain and partly because i keep thinking it will go away through other measures such as minimally invasive procedures.

in the meantime, it would be GREAT to be allowed to choose my "drug" of choice for pain relief, wouldn't it? i'll take organic from the earth over man-made any day!

sorry - still venting but this IS my thread, :D

i'm so sick of hearing "but you're young and will get addicted". if you've had pain your entire life, would you actually CARE about addiction if you can't be freed of your pain?

someone just PM'd me about my thread.

i want to mention that i use chiropractic, massage, yoga, stretching, and exercising to manage the pain. i'm not relying on medication or doctors or MARIJUANA <gasp>. i also have a TENS unit, a chiropractor-quality massager and use the typical heat and ice. we're also in the process of shopping for a hot tub!

would it make a difference, help this thread, get some discussion going if i listed my symptoms or diagnoses? or should that all be discussed on more specific threads. i started this one with the intention it would go the way of docs in non-MMJ states who are FOR MMJ!

and of course, i wanted to say YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! :D
