I have a friend in LA who also likes to go everywhere barefoot (and shirtless). I just visited him for a long weekend and we were both barefoot (and shirtless) the entire time everywhere: the LA subway (where our soles got very black), the Hollywood walk of fame, Venice, and West Hollywood. It was great not wearing shoes the entire time. We compared our soles several times during each day seeing whose were dirtier. My friend often won, but I didn't mind. It was great riding the subway barefoot and going someplace far with no shoes at all so you just have to stay barefoot.
Sure is! Very freeing! I did the same in London yesterday. Not sure about being with a similar mate though, but then that's just me:sunny:
That walk of fame can get very hot in the summer, pretty awesome though being able to put bare soles into the footprints of famous stars at Grauman's Chinese theatre though.
no one in LA gives a fuck if your shirltess or shoeless lol its common to see. Even people come into my work (i work in a large chain retail store) shirt/shoe less and we never say anything
You're so right LA seems to just one of those carefree places. I visited LA just over a year ago when I was over there with family, both myself and my wife were barefoot the whole time, nobody cared or made any fuss, comment or issue.
Agreed. There's nothing quite like being out and about with the footwear left at home. Even better to make a trip to another town entirely shoeless. I suppose it's a bit like pretending you don't own any of those things for a day!
I always enjoy visiting LA and usually spend most of the time getting around on my crutches with my foot bare. While there, it has not been unusual to encounter other barefoot unipeds.
A while back I was in a situation where I could get away with it, so I threw away all of my shoes and socks and didn't get any others for a month. No flips, no sandals, nothing. I was still a little new to the no shoes in public thing at the time and I have a hard time even today putting into words the kind of rush I had those first few days. Just knowing that I had to go everywhere barefoot I felt so naked, vulnerable and exposed. Got a lot of funny looks (I think we all have at some time) but never got any static for it. Not even at the shopping mall. If you ever get a chance to try it, you owe it to yourself to ditch the safety net of having shoes at home and try it.
The nearest I've got to this was a nine-day trip by sea and rail to Scandinavia a few years back. Didn't take any footwear at all with me. I was hoping someone might ask me where my shoes were so I could reply "In London" but it never happened!
I agree with nospam, who got me into trying the no shoes at home deal. It was def hot for me to head out to stores, the barbers, wherever barefoot cause you had to. I made it to close 9 months totally barefoot. Even then driving somewhere I'd suddenly think o yeh I'm barefoot. Cool. The idea that you had to was hot to me.
It's a point we're well aware of. There are risks everywhere regardless of choice of footwear. As a matter of fact I'm getting over a really nasty bacterial infection that my Doctor believes I picked up while surfing in the local sea...go figure - there's poop everywhere!
