My hair is sectioned and braided so i can twist and rip dread at my leisure. i have 30 braids but am splitting some of them as i really want thin dreads, mostly just splitting a few at the front and leaving the back ones a little thicker. here are some pics of my first ever dread I have split this braid in 2 and am going to dread the second half right now so i can see how they co exist!! haha so stoked!!!!
I did some more last night, hopefully i get a few done every day! i had to make a face because it is very fuzzy and they are kind of sticking out weird but i like them! haha i havent decided yet weather to leave my fringe normal or to let it dread... i am going to leave it neat for now n see how i feel when the rest of my hair is dreaded.
Good luck with it, just try not to think too much about them while they're maturing, it only makes it more frustrating.
they are all done now! all fuzzy and fun! i love it! haha we will see if i still love it in a few months
So this is me, very excited because i am all finished with the braids, you cant really see the "dreads" very well, i havent gone over board with styling them i have really only just got them started. they have stayed together well but have all fallen apart at the back so i will just separate clumps every now n then
my dreads feel super fluffy today and falling apart, i am trying to ignore it because i know they will do their thing in time, just needed to vent about it on here
there are heaps of loosey goosey hairs, it actually looks really funky and i love it! but the waiting is still hard because i really want proper dreads even more i washed it once, we had no bi carb soda so i just used my shampoo, now we haev bicarb and i shall use that tomorrow
bi carb works really well as a deep clense, make up a container or it and soak your head in it, leave it for about half an hour and it will draw out all the dirt. I like to put a little sea salt and a bit of tea tree in the mix as well. oh you should think about giving a bit more time between washes. Dreads don't need to be washed every other day, in fact hair doesn't need to be washed that much, Also as they get thicker, tighter and longer it is such a pain to dry them, and can take quite a few hours, depending on your climate. Your gonna go through one hell of an itchy stage over the next few weeks as it adjusts though, its the worst part of the process but it goes away
yeah - dont wash everyday. when i first started out i washed every third day or so, now i can go a few weeks without washing (but thats gross, so i generally wash once a week)
hahaha i generally wash every 3rd day or so any way, im trying to avoid it too much or do just water washes but im a personal trainer so i sweat a lot and its icky! hahaha the itchy stage has begun! i feel like i have fleas! haha i have lots of essential oils so i should be able to get some good smellies happening
i cant believe how quickly it got itchy!!! i try never to scratch it in front of my mum because she hates the fact that i am going dreads, especially seeing as now i am just neglecting it and in her defence it does look terrible at the moment! haha half knotted in some places messy and ratty! hahaha i am hoping it gets better
rosemary rinses can help! or, get some exfoliating gloves and when youre in the shower, rub your finger tips on your scalp to get rid of the dead skin etc
good to hear about the congos my dreads arre forming really randomly, they are tangling from the bottom up, the lower half of my hair is starting to dread pretty well and become defined but there are about 4-6cm at the top of each mini dread un dreaded! hahaha
