    Good morning:)

In college my roommate was from Iran so I learned a bit about that country from him, even the language a bit. Some years later I had a girlfriend from Iran and I also worked with Iranians. Very smart, friendly and proud people. The only thing that scared them were modern US/Israel weaponsystems.

    Now this:

shows a complete lack of understanding of US foreign policy which goes something like this....

If you are truly a potential threat to the USA, we won't attack you, like N. Korea.

If you are not a potential threat to the USA and you don't have anything we want, such as minerals, oil & gas or a strategic location, we won't attack you.

If you have not attacked the USA but have something we want, and you won't give it to us on our terms, you are deemed a threat and we will impose economic sanctions on you and/or invade you and take what we want.

We don't give a shit how you treat your people, such as Sudan, unless you have something the USA wants then we will use the mistreatment of your people as an excuse to invade your country and kill your people, in the name of humanity of course, and take what we want.

And of course, if you are even perceived as being a threat to Israel, we will attack you regardless of if that perception is right or wrong.

    Pretty simple, right?

I knew lots of Iranians from back in my Bahai days.
Every one of them had to escape such a wonderful and peaceful country by running for their lives.

Iran had a democratically elected leader in the 1970's, America overthrew him with our CIA and replaced him with a dictator. The elected leader believed in equal rights for women and minorities, but he didn't do good business with America...So he was silenced.

how can anyone like iran. i do not agree with everything the mainstream media say about iran. but lets not forget its a nation run by religious fanatics. they still dont allow freedom of speech. they still curb peoples individual freedoms. and as i have friends from iran who left simply because they are gay. they still hang people for being gay. and they also kill people who challenge or disagree with the government. i dont forget they have a leader who has threatened to use nuclear weapons on its enemies if they have had them. why i also believe iran nuclear program to be none military. i dont think there country is as peaceful as most are saying. also there behind most of the insurgent attacks in iraq and afganastan

No need to like Iran, but we should respect the way they decide to run THEIR country. Let any country tell us how to behave and you will hear millions of Americans scoff and deride the offending party bold enough to question our way of life.

    I've known some Iranians too

but I try not to judge a whole country based on a couple of lucky escapees who were smart enough to leave ;)

    Pretty much spot on.

Iran wants to be a REAL country, because they're still really rebelling against our shaw puppet. We want them to be a colonial puppet-state, so we're still beating our chests at the legitimate regime that took control after ousting our puppet.

I think you may be mixing up the various places we flopped down uncle sam's big democratic dick. You might be talking about iraq pre-baath party?

The shaw was, I think, reasonably long standing, or at least the puppet system there was.

Iran was "western", and despite them being pretty well off, we sent millions in aid all the time, which the shaw would use to buy our tanks and fighter jets, until we would send more money, which he would use in the same way. And then the ayatollah khomeni made some bootleg tape speeches and got islamic tempers up about the western puppet state, and in less than a day the shaw was toppled (I think he survived, fled, and either died alone or was assasinated with something like polonium in a hospital or something). He never got a chance to fire off even one of his tanks or fighter jets, the whole country just said fuck this shit, and jumped ship.

Iran has a democratic government. It IS a theocratic democracy, but it is the will of the people. There are the stodgy old ayatollahs and all, but we pushed and they shoved back, and they've done things at their pace ever since, and more power to em.

Iran was like what happened in egypt, except that in iran, they succeeded.

mystic eye a lot of people from Iran are not the enemy, I can talk about this from a ex military view :army:, the history of the country is off.

When the dictator was put into power and used chemical weapons against anyone who spoke out (even his own people) a film of the aftermath that was shown to us, men woman and children had spazed out so much that they broke their own backs.

Can you blame people for being scared into being silent? It forced them to accept what was going on which is why so many still hang for being different (gay for example).

It is not just the media that is the problem, the only things I saw from Iran were tapes of gun fights and suicide bombers, but nothing was told to us about arms deals and training that they received from us, which is still used today.

I’m sure that they are only shown the bad side of us too but often the yanks don’t help and we have had some orders that never ended well, there are good people in the military but misguided, and I am proud to say I never fired a single shot at anyone.

    :peace:

Fuck that article, it is a little biased, written by a Iranian journalist. But I digress, The Gov't of Iran is a fucked up power structure, talk about no freedoms. Iranian people are cool sure, but the country of Iran sucks donkey balls.

I would argue that if all of your statements are squared, your post could be describing the US.
