Thanks for the cite. I assume this is the study by Naveed S. Sheikh, Body Count, published by the Royal Al-Bayat Institute for Islamic Thought in 2009. I'll try to get hold of it. Off hand though, the figures are so out of line with other available sources that I'm skeptical. I've given you figures re major wars and events known to involve Christians that would produce body counts. The figure given by Dr. Sheikh are more than three times the body count of World War II. You should be aware that all fatality figures from conflicts are sketchy, especially those from four centuries or more ago. And there is considerable subjectivity in classifying events as deaths attributable to Christianity. Dr. Sheikh is a Muslim, and has chosen as his publication outlet as an Institute for Islamic Thought. In other words, I suspect Muslim bias.
I believe one of the problems may be the use of the term "Christian civilization". By using the term "Christian civilization" all wars, in fact all deaths occurring in a predominately "Christian" nation can be laid at the feet of "Christianity" as a whole. So by this thinking the deaths of both world wars can be laid at the feet of "Christianity" and maybe even things like the deaths from Spanish Influenza, because it seemed to be the result of a "Christian civilization" war. But even taking that all into consideration the number 250,000,000 seems a little high for any one cause.
I'll bet you're right. Surely the wars in Iran and Afghanistan would be included. As the saying goes, "Figures don't lie, but liars can figure."
I just realized this was a Christian Thread. Sorry for the in your face Non-Religious views, I don’t normally do that, and when discussing religion try to stick to the Atheist or Non-Religious treads. Hope I did not offend anyone too bad.
Adventists tend to live long with the whole healthy eating, no alcohol, vegetarian, "temple of the Holy Spirit" thing-y...
This gets confusing, but as I understand it you're perfectly free to post on this site, at least as far as the rules go. Skip, who's in charge of this site, created a whole separate Sanctuary site for us, where we are free to quote the Bible to our hearts content and are protected from the intrusions of non-Christians. As I understand it, a major purpose for giving Christians this special treatment was to keep us from Bible thumping on this forum, which is open to a free-flowing dialogue about Christianity. As OWB says, your posts are quite tame relative to what we used to get, which was often something like "Christians Suck!" Those I do mind, not because they insult Christians, but because they are devoid of serious intellectual content.
