If I told him that I was suicidal, would I be hospitalized? Or should I just keep it to myself for a while? Sorry for this depressing ass post haha, my first visit will be in about a week and was just wondering.

Depends on if you're really suicidal. There's a big difference between actually in danger of ending your own life through self-inflicted trauma, and just being exasperated with one's life and depressed, feeling like death is the only answer, but still not going for for some mysterious reason ;)

the mental health forum would be a better place for this, I think

you may want to try calling a suicide hotline about this. I think that most (all?) suicide hotlines have a confidentiality policy.

it might vary from state to state or country to country what a doctor would likely do

I don't think that you would be hospitalized for just saying that you feel suicidal. the issue would be how high a risk you would be for actually carrying this out

more likely, a doctor would give you a prescription or recommend talk therapy

They will ask you if you are considering hurting yourself now or others, if you say no they will leave it at that, but question your motives.

I have been in this exact situation about a dozen times.

If you say that you think about it, then no, but if you say that you really want to, that you are planning it or that you will do it, then probably yes.

You may want to try contacting a destruction hotline about this. I think that most destruction hotlines have a privacy plan.it might different from condition to nation or condition to nation what a Psychiatrist would likely do I don't think that you would be put in the hospital for just saying that you experience taking once life. the problem would be how great a threat you would be for actually holding this out.

If you're really feeling suicidal, then you should be hospitalized.

If you demonstrate an immediate danger to yourself or others, I believe it's 72 hrs minimum, depending on their assessment of you. I'm not 100% sure, but I think in IL the limit is 10 days, then there will be a court hearing to determine if you need to be held for a longer period. It would be the court's decision, but they will probably go with your doctor's assessment. You didn't really say if you're actually suicidal or not. I've known people to do this to get meds or to get it in their records to support a disability claim. And successfully, too. But if you really are having these thoughts, you really should get help.
