i think that britian has the most diverse accents in the world per country. what do you guys think? also what is your fave british accent? i like the cockney accent.
I love the Scottish accent the most make me weak at the knees closely followed by the cornish accent.. I have a strong Yorkshire Accent
Like the Northern accents. Mancunian, Scouse, Geordie - they are all great. I Think the Weegie accent is the funniest (though I would never say that to one!).
my Mother always said that there was an accent and a dialect; an accent was not their faut, a dialect was just improper use of the English language! (of course I don't agree, my parents are very right wing)
An accent implies you are using the same language, but with a somewhat different pronunciation on some words. A dialect is basically the same language, but some words are different. In some languages, the dialect can be so different from region to region that people speaking the same language can really struggle to understand each other. So you could say scouse and cockney are dialects, while geordie and mancunian are more akin to accents. (I'm only basing that on the fact I can understand geordies and mancs, but scousers and cockneys make no fucking sense to me - actual definitions may vary.)
fascinating video someone (from this forum i reckon) linked me to once : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dABo_DCIdpM"]The English Language In 24 Accents - YouTube i love all british accents <3 (and american accents but i guess this is the wrong forum) but i can't understand the cockney or the scottish accents (and about the video, that guy does the most accurate french accent i've ever heard)
We live in a wonderful nation. The sheer amount of dialects and regional expressions makes you wonder how we ever understand each other.
I agree we have a vast variety of wonderful accents, I love that about the UK. I personally prefer the softer versions of accents whatever the accent is. I'm from south Liverpool so my Scouse accent is softer than North Liverpool Scouse accents.
