Hi all! I've been letting my hair naturally dread for almost a month now and there are a few little dreadies forming but I was wondering what else I can do to encourage knots? I've been using a sea salt + seaweed shampoo bar on them every couple of days. Any help would be appreciated! I know patience is the biggest key but I'd like to help them along and make sure they don't fall out!
when you dry your hair with a towel, smush them with the palm of your hand against your scalp, in a circular motion, and rubrubrubrubrub get an old woollen jumper and pin it to your pillow.. friction = knots ditto with beanie wearing
The wooley pillow thing works for sure! I think the best thing that would help would be just forgetting that your hair was going through the locking process. Especially since your letting it naturally lock up. Just let was naturally occurs, occur. It works on it's own time. Supposedly time flies when your having fun. You could just fill up a year of fun'ness and the next thing ya know someone will be like, "hey nice locks!" And then you'll look in the mirror and be like, "whoa when did those get there!" Just remember to wash them.
This motion while shampooing will do it very quickly, too. Especially with bronners, and it's high-friction effect on some people's hair. It was like 2-3 weeks until I had a lock, at which point I realized I had two little fragile ones on one side of my head, and that had been with bronners, beanies, etc.. 10 months later, no loose hair. So I think you're doing fine timewise.
I like to think positive thoughts make it tingly through my brain into my hair roots and they cooperate. No for real though, I agree with Smelly D -- just enjoy the journey and time. If it's [naturally] working like you said, great!
