I'm trying to stop using traditional shampoo/conditioner in order to make my hair less dry and frizzy, and because shampoos/conditioners have all those nasty chemicals and additives in them. Despite all these good reasons, my parents have told me to wash my hair. I don't want to, I'm nearly two weeks "poo-free", but I also dont want to make them angery. Any ideas?

    Peace out~!

Yes! Use baking soda mixed with water. It cuts oil and if it is dry afterward you can rinse with apple cider vinegar.

I just use water in my hair..seems like it washes good enough to me. I try and not do it to often though.

i used very diluted Dr. Bronners while my hair got used to being natural. Ive heard and read it can take as long as 8 weeks for your hair to reach the point where it will clean itself, a good wash now and again isnt that bad.

I wish I didn't need to use shampoo, but I have hair that gets too oily and dirty way too fast. So shampoo for me is a love/hate relationship.

if you wash your hair to much, its bad

but if you wash it every now and then its good because it leaves the natural oils in the hair

Buy any homemade soap. You know, the organic stuff someone makes at home and sells. The bars are about $7 a piece but you are supporting a local artist/vendor. These bars are pretty clear and you can use them to wash your hair! They make different types so you want to look for one that is made with herbs that are good for your hair. (I use the peppermint one when I have a cold or headache just FYI)

I simply wash my hair with water. No one has ever complained about the smell. I've even asked some of my friends. No-poo is DEFINITELY the way to go for my hair.

Shampoo and combing really stressed my curly hair out, and caused it to develop split ends more easily. Plus it caused a lot of dandruff, and I'd lose a lot of hair, too. The anti-dandruff shampoos only made it itch more, no matter how high-tech they claimed they were on the labels.

But no more. :D Glad I went the route I did. World of difference. I can have a head full of hair, and not have to be distracted by it at all. Took forever to convince my mother, though, but she agrees that I was right.

Keep in mind, no-poo DOES NOT mean not washing your hair at all. It means using nothing but water, since your hair naturally produces the oils to clean itself. If you don't wash it with water from time to time, then your hair becomes too greasy and it starts to smell.

I still use commercial body lotion when washing everything else, though, since I'm not the one buying.

On another note, I wonder why OP got banned. He/she only had this one post.

Is there even such a thing on Hip Forums? Unless OP was under 13, but that's pretty uncommon here.

Should we still give advice on how to find alternative hair-washing solutions?

I like Dr. Bronner in small amounts. Too much leaves a residue. I have dreads though.

This post is interesting to me. My hair is always really frizzy and wild after I wash and let it air dry. I have to straighten it to get it to look decent. What about a natural way to highlight/color hair?

Use something natural, make your own. Or as many have said use baking soda and whatnot. Washing it too much is bad.. not washing it at all is bad as well though.
