I am currently living in Victoria and would like to venture away from the city with some like-minded peoples. I wish to stay relatively close(1hr or 2) to Victoria or Vancouver, as I have family here and there. Looking to group purchase some land and build a quaint community of love and health, among other things.
If you're interested or are already proceeding down the same path.. say somethin! :prettyplease:

Wow, that sounds like a nice plan. I'd love to be involved in something like that, but I'm in the UK unfortunately. I spent some time in that part of the world though, and its soooo beautiful!
    I wish you luck! :)

There don't seem to be too many folks from BC on this forum (at least not too many who post that much). Best of luck with all that down there, pretty expensive land prices (though you get what you pay for) and not an area I like to spend too much time in (though there are a lot of pretty farms down there) but I'm sure if you'll find people who are interested in what community that Victoria's probably a pretty good place to look. Have you ever lived in or stayed at any sort of community?

thank-you for the good wishes periless

communalredneck, it's a shame you don't like to spend time in this area... it sure is a lot more than pretty farms. you don't like the gulf islands, beaches and ocean? It's a pity we have too pay for it at all but the land is more expensive. However, the season's aren't as harsh and come on it's amazing here!
It is disheartening to hear that not many people from bc post here but hey, i joined yesterday, maybe others will soon join as well.
Have I ever lived in or stayed at any sort of community? ...i suppose that's the make or break question. No, I have not and I don't currently know many people that have. Does it realllly matter though? I may be just under 24 years old, but I'm intelligent, strong, work hard and have nothing but good intentions.

Hopefully somebody will read this, be interested, and respond. Simply discussing plans and goals would be fantastic.

I'm from up in the Cariboo and under 22. It's just a little bit of a culture/weather shock going down there, especially after 3 years out in Edmonton. lol. As for value I was thinking mostly about the quality of farm land and soil, I've always been jelous of the fact that there's more than 100 days growing season and you're not growing stuff on Brunisolic soils (very little to non existant top soil).

And maybe now that this will probably come up on google more people will join, wouldn't be a bad thing, it's super boring when there are no new posts and one needs a way to delay having to study.

I do wish you the best of luck, I've grown up on a commune (intentional community, depending on definitions) and I while I may not be much of a stereotypical hippie (I'm blaring Alan Jackson and enjoying it!) I think more people need to start looking at how we can live in a less destructive manner, and work together too. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Not to jijack the thread, but how did your idea of a floating community go makihiko? I saw you had posted quite a while ago about it. I think that's very cool, maybe not for me of the fact that I'm a land luber!

Thank-you for the offer faelix, however i think it may be quite some time before land is purchase.. but you never know!
and thank-you for the good wishes communal redneck :)
makihiko, I think I would love living on the water. I've dreamt about doing many many times before. I read your floating commune thread... are you in tofino now? or ontario? I haven't spent too much time up there but I don't remember seeing any floathouses. Part of me wants to think that the waters too crazy to live on there, but i'm sure there are sheltered areas that don't get as rough. Living on a floating commune is something that I would like to try short term but what I'm most interested in long term is being completely self-sustainable, which includes growing my own food. I'd also reallly love to be able to have my own horse... or two! :)

Honestly, I'm just really fed up with modern ways and still find it hard to believe that harm may come to me from "the law" if I settle an unsettled piece of land. So, basically i'm stuck because I don't want to live to far away from my family, but can't afford enough land in the vicinity on my own. It seems like people everywhere are coming into the know more and more every day. Hopefully with the right luck I'll be able to find the right people :)

I'd like to travel to Canada more often, but both times I recently crossed the US-Canadian border, I was hassled by Canadian border patrol, but maybe that's decreased since Bush left office.
