I think weight gain is associated mostly with diabetes. The newer atypicals seem the less harmful, also I noticed apriprazal does not cause weight gain too much. I found the newer drugs more helpful then seroquel and the tranquilizing type ones. Fatigue and weight gain go hand in hand too. Lithium is bad because it changes a lot of normal body processes and can increase glucose levels, I think but am not totally sure about glucose.
Ummm almost all of them. To be honest a very large amount of meds that are anti psycotics either cause weight gain or diabetes... or high cholesterol. Just because it didnt for one person doesnt mean it will worlk for you. I guess just do the research. I like webMD
Both answers are correct besides xmas. Zyprexa is particularly notable but is certainly not the only one. In general, from what I understand, the atypicals like risperidone, olanzapine, quetiapine, etc tend to be followed by diabetes more so than typicals like haloperidol, fluphenazine, etc. To say they've "caused diabetes" is mostly unsubtantiated (trigger?) as far as I know. Although the typicals have a whole host of problems themselves- atypicals have others as well... I would never feel comfortable calling any anti-psychotic "safe".
I was misdiagnosed with Bipolar 2 disorder. I was put on Zyprexa once and Symbyax also. One made me end up gaining about 40 lbs, while the other gave me horrible vivid nightmares.
Ill tell ya something. I have bi-polar, PTSD, Chronic anxiety, Insomnia, and minor OCD. I used to be on meds but meds just cloud the mind. They surpress the real person. I am an avid supporter that there are much natural BETTER ways to control mental illnesses other than medication. And I am proof of that. Just sayin.... what do u think people did before Big Pharma?
Just curious...is that an opium derivative? I was thinking...they had opium and codiene. Cocaine was legal; but, I am quite certain that didn't help psychosis! Also, weed was legal; but, supposedly only the "lower class" tended to use it, if history is correct. Drinking alcohol was "enjoyed" by all classes, and probably by all who had any kind of disorder (except for those in "temperance" groups).
lol this is totally off topic but ur cat looks just like my cat Buddha! Same colors and markings and everything lol!
Yeah, Laudanum is a tincture of opium and it was used for just about anything and everything. It found it's way into many of the old patent medicines that were so popular. With opium, weed, and alcohol so readily available it's a wonder everybody wasn't stoned off their ass 100 years ago... Hmmm, maybe they all were stoned.
