Anyone going barefoot to college? It was 40 years ago this week that I started going barefoot to rebel again the teachers, coaches and chaperones that told be I had to wear shoes. First thing i did when i moved into the dorm was take them off and walk around the campus.
I was in architecture school at Mississippi State U from 98-04 and knew this one girl a couple years below me who was always barefoot, pretty much 24/7/365.
I don't see any reason you should be TOLD to wear shoes unless you're in a shop class or something of the like in which you would be better off with foot protection.
Starting next week! It's gonna be chilly where I'm going though, so shoes will be worn from Sept/Oct to March
The best part is the looks you get walking through fresh snow. (the second best part is the frostbite-related blisters you have the next day)
When I was at college (late 1980s & early 1990s), I quickly had the reputation of being "the barefoot guy" for being barefoot 24/7, except on frosty days. In the arts and humanities dept., it was quite common to see other college barefooters in summer, some of them in decidedly hippie outfits, too, but full-time barefooters were quite rare.
