Why can you not legally be nude in public?

Don't feel stupid! I think we all understood what you meant. And in a way you weren't wrong, as laws against public nudity do make it impossible for us to live a nudist life outside of private spaces and areas set aside for nudism. So the law does affect nudism, as well as other forms of public nudity.

 

Id qoute ur message Toivo, but i dont know how. Anyway, as a response, all i have to say is some people can block out noise/music and there are even laws against playing it very loud(atleast where i live). So it is both controlled and as easy to avoid, but i do get the point your making. as for further explanation, im running out of ideas. Your questions/arguments are beyond my ability to reason against so i will no longer. That and i only wished to propose a reasonable explanation for why public nudity is illegal.

I disagree with this answer. Many non-human forms of animal life have strong sex drives and they function just fine without clothing. Because we have become accustomed to wearing clothes, it causes being naked to have some kind of extra sexual connotation. If we were all naked all the time, there would be no extra sexual connotation to being naked.

I personally think that if nudism wasn't seen as such a taboo, if clothes were optional, then a large percent of the population of most places would opt to be naked

 

your right they don't. i noticed that when i was hangin' out on a canadian beach. i could'nt understand why i was the only one topless.an it was very hot.but i did like the way no body looked at me different because i was.it was very laid back there just like here at home on the beach.

i used to go to a northern california nude beach with two lady friends called devils slide which was at the bottom of a high cliff and it cracked me up that truckers would pull over and park at the top of the cliff and use binoculars to watch the women play frisbee but never get the nerve to join in...

It is largely culture which has dictated how laws were formulated. When you think about it logically there is no reason why it shouldn't be a clothing optional world. In many parts of the world the climate is not suitable for spending much time nude. Even when the temperature and laws permit it few of us would be relaxed nude where others around us were not so accepting.

Most naturists/nudists are not bothered about being seen by others who themselves are always clothed; the very term "clothing optional" implies that there are bound to be situations where textiles and nudist share the same space. What is important is that nobody thinks it is unusual for us to be naked there. So what matters to us is firstly the legal perspective (we don't want to be prosecuted!), we don't like being overtly stared at though we do expected to be noticed. We are naturists basically because we find it so much more comfortable especially swimming or relaxing outdoors. Having discovered that being naked feels better some of us look for more opportunities and question why should we have wear clothes unless we choose to. We all have different comfort levels ranging from those who simply don't care as long as it is not illegal to those of us who prefer to be with other naked people if we are not alone.

 

i don't think so. if a large percentage of the population would agree with this we already would be living in a world where nudism was as popular as you think it would be.

nudism is ok on special occasions (e.g. beach on a hot summer day), but for the rest of the public space, the streets, cafes, movies, friends' places, etc etc that concept is disturbing actually. people don't want to see people they don't find sexually attractive naked. it's plain and simple as that. the notion of 'let's-all-go-naked-everywhere' is naive and childish. not to mention unhygienic.

It is my understanding that there are nudist resorts, beaches and the like. There are places where you can be nude if that is your thing. Why do nudists NEED to force everyone to look at their penis if they don't want to?

There is freedom TO, and freedom FROM. The nudists are not even close to being in the majority, so I'm not sure what this argument is for.

Everybody shits, too, but I don't hear anyone wanting to shit in the park like a dog does. Yes, we are animals, but very weak ones. The only reason we made it this far was because we put on clothes and learned to hunt.

 

They are allowed to anywhere that men can. Just not in a store that has a "no shirt, no service" policy. I remember when that came into effect, all the guys I knew wanted to go cruising the downtown to look for boobies. So far I have not seen one topless woman in Ontario. Not even at the beach.

I have, however, seen (and done) lots of public breastfeeding. Being topless would not cool me off anyway. Any woman with more than an A cup would know of the underboob sweat...
