I've got a few cuttings from my mom's plants that have rooted, and nothing to plant them in. Anyone know of a good DIY recycling project to make some indoor flowerpots with drainage in case I over-water them?

That depends on the size of the plants,spider-but a plastic bottle cut down with a few holes into the bottom does a neat job [I do it]

Washing-up bowls [again, punctured] do a good job for things like Geraniums, which like to spread their roots,as do old ice-cream tubs.
[also,a w/u bowl is ideal for growing cooking herbs such as mint, garlic, etc]

Old metal buckets also work-they're good for trailing plants as they can be hung up.
    Once painted,they look surprisingly good.

I've also got 2 old plastic deskside waste bins holding miniature rose bushes-I just painted them with creosote in-and-out and they do a grand job as roses don't require much watering.

Be inventive, and best of luck mate!

Ooh! We have a winner~ got a couple empty bottles, thinking if I cut them and turn the top upside down and put it inside it'd be a good way to drain, and I could put some pretty rocks in the bottom to weigh them down. I'll try to post photos when I work out the how-to.

tin cans, like from soup, or coffee cans. any plastic container, ice cream tubs, chipped bowls. cut the tops off of two-liters and use those. even wine bottles can be planted in. don't worry about putting holes for drainage if you can't. they aren't necessary if you keep a good eye on the water- water when the soil is dry to the touch, because overwatering will rot the roots.

    Close, oshin.
A non draining container needs some drainage, and rocks or other debris can create that drainage.
I know some public planters have empty plastic bottles for drainage and to keep the weight down for workers who must move them around.

    And look at this.
Go to the middle of the page for sub irrigated planters.

Empty bottles are a great option. I have a few old paint cans (punctured holes in them) which I have used as flower pots. Plastic containers which are a waste in your kitchen can be used for planting. If you have climbers growing in water then wine and beer bottles are good too.
