Hello, I am working on a computer animation for school. And the subject of my animation is about a lesbian woman who is kind of butch. I suppose she could fall under the term of "dyke". But I've only ever heard some people use that term every now and then and I was wondering does the LGBT community consider that term to be offensive or what? Because I was considering naming my animation simply, "Dyke".

Wikipedia and Yahoo answers seems to say the term started out as negative but then became "reappropriated", sort of like the term, "yankee" or the n-word. So, what say ye?

    Got any insights on this?

Btw, the main character, the dyke, is an action heroine in my animation but I wanted to also explore some of the psychology of what you would call a dyke. Are there any dykes here willing to answer some questions? Just for shits and giggles? You'd be helping me quite a bit. :afro:

    Well thanks for readin

In my experience, how a lesbian feels about the therm "dyke" depends on the person and how the term is used.

I doubt many would find i offensive if you said "Some refer to masculine acting or dressing lesbians as dykes."

Most would be if you said "And look here, we have a friggin dyke."
