I sure wasn't defending the big companies that make millions and pay the actual artists pennies. But you look at Pirate bay which claimed that it was all about making things "fair" and it turns out that they're fucking millionaires and they never gave a single penny to any artist.

Personally I think that those that actually do the work to create something deserve to be compensated. And if you're not willing to put some money in when the hat is passed around, then you shouldn't be standing there watching the show because that's just damn rude and ignorant.

The third link posted in OP is a really great read for people on either side of the issue; but possibly even more so for supporters of the Pirate Bay.

I don't care what their other ideologies are; all I know is that at the current state of things, most people can't afford much, and a few people can afford most everything. Those that work in propagating traditional publishing and distribution of media are typically a lot closer to that second end of the spectrum than most people that rely on torrents to find enjoyment in their life.

2) as alluded to by OP, the traditional system is often just as, and sometimes even more, unfair to the creators of pirated products
Until money is distributed more fairly, both throughout the publishing systems and throughout the world at large; I don't see how any one of the 99% can be against online "piracy".
