There is no doubt, in my mind anyway, the mainstreaming of porn is playing a role in establishing expectations among guys and girls. Right or wrong, porn has changed the sexual landscape.

I have a great relationship with my mom. She is young at heart,very modern and liberal, and very chill, but I would never in a million years feel comfortable about discussing anal sex with my mom.

No, I think it's great. I wish I had felt comfortable in my teen years having a totally open conversation about sex with my mother.

My older sister knew more than I did, but she didn't know everything. I learned a lot from medical books in a college library. Getting guidance from an open-minded mother seems ideal.

As the original poster, I probably need to "justify" the conversation and level of trust I have with my daughter.

No, we don't talk about sex very much at all, but as a girl growing up with no father and a mother, who despite her best efforts at being discreet, was obviously bisexual (me!!) "little" chats began at a reasonably early age.
I flaunted nothing, but neither did I really hide anything if directly questioned.

She has grown into a responsible young adult, which is all a mother can want. The rest is now up to her.

 

Today's young woman is expected to be :

1) Bisexual
2) Like anal sex
3) Slightly dumb
4) Slightly submissive
5) Be willing to try things like gang bangs, etc
6) Make every effort to look like a Barbie doll and have the genitals of an 8 year old.

Now all of this might be at the very least be slightly mitigated if the majority of today's young men had held to a previous generation's value of finding a woman to settle down with and buying a house with a white picket fence.

But unfortunately the prevailing attitude amongst many young men today is that what defines a relationship is the ability to fuck the shit out of their "girlfriend" in every possible way they can imagine for 3 to 6 months and before then kicking her to the curb and finding another girl.

 

IMO, I don't look for any of those things in a girl. Part of the fun of finding a person to be with is finding out who they are and what turns them on, what makes them tick. If she's bisexual then great, so am I. As far as anal, my outlook is the whole body is a vessel for pleasure not just certain parts, if shes into anal or not doesn't effect how I perceive her attractiveness. As far as intelligence you couldn't be any further from the truth. I think you'll find that most guys want to find someone they can hold a conversation with. I think it's important that a woman has an equal balance of submissiveness and dominance in her personality otherwise too much of either will get very annoying quite quickly. Or maybe we're just more aware of them. When I was in college, there was no internet or text messages. Sexual practices were much more underground than they are today. Not many people talked openly about what they did or thought, for fear of mistreatment by prudes.

Sexual ignorance has always been around. Everybody is born stupid, and accurate sexual information has never been plentiful or easy to find in the US. My generation had its share of sexual idiots. We were just stupid about other things besides anal sex. Very few of us were curious about that one particular act, so the relevant facts about bacteria, infections, and long-term sphincter damage were not a factor for many people.

I heard a lot of crazy bullshit from girls my age. I never understood why some people were so quick to believe whatever they were told by ordinary people, when it was so easy to look it up in a library book and get information from someplace like the Harvard School of Medicine. You think somebody who has done hundreds of surgeries on colon tears might know a thing or two about it? Who do you think knows more about bacterial infections, your sister or a microbiologist doing world-class research at Duke University? And why are the answers to these questions not obvious to everybody?

It does appear that there has been a bit of a sexual power shift, in favor of the guys. Young women seem to feel more pressured to give the guys whatever they want, even though women are more financially self-sufficient than ever before. I have no clue what's driving this.

 

If they were always there and are only now coming out of the proverbial woodwork or if they are as I said, growing in number. Either way one could argue that the old 'system' better keeping the morons in check.

Were they really in check? Or did they simply run out of options after college? The single adults' culture of today didn't exist in the eighties. People 25 and older got into monogamous, serious relationships back then because they had no other options, in most cases.

I was one of the few holdouts. I didn't think that lifestyle was for me, even though I was ready to be done with immature college boys.

The 'old system' in college was designed to keep prudes in check. If you were sitting beside me in class and had asked me about the weekend parties I went to, I wouldn't have told you anything unless I had reason to believe that you were cool, and not wanting to cause trouble.

I partied with several people who had some stupid ideas about a lot of things, and a lot of them suffered serious consequences from their mistakes. Some of them never finished college, due to pregnancy, rehab, flunking out, etc. Fortunately, we didn't have to deal with HIV or herpes.

Boys have always been good at this, without any help from technology. If you have any doubt, check out the old classic movie "Animal House". How realistic is John Belushi's character? I could name ten guys who were worse than him. Fuck, I knew guys in high school who were worse than him.

I wonder what it's like right now to live in a women's dorm. Do they all sit in their rooms, logged into Facebook? We used to have group conversations that our parents wouldn't have approved of, that lasted well past midnight.

There was one girl in my dorm who openly admitted to liking anal, and everybody said she was a psycho. Most of the mainstream party girls kept their distance from her.
