I rarely watch TV. There is nothing that seems to interest me or hold my attention for very long. But I can't get over how many of these stupid "reality" shows there are on the tube these days, on just about every channel, for just about every stupid trivial thing imaginable. Sometimes at my parents' house I will watch crap like 'American Pickers' or 'Pawn Stars', since my dad watches those shows, but I hate so many of the characters on these programs and how they act, even in the off-the-cuff interviews. It just seems so fake and scripted. I mean, who acts and talks that way?
LOL the trucker shows pushed it over the edge for me, i cant watch those..Same goes for all of them..I think after the sucess of Mtvs the real world, reality tv seemed to be the thing to do...Its awesome if you can watch those things and i congradulate you on being able to but i cant..
i got rid of the black hole long ago. i figured i spend enough time laying still and breathing when i'm asleep. i don't care about the good shows anymore either.
I always have people asking me about commercials. I usually have to just look at them blankly if they haven't been on YouTube or Hulu, lol. I do watch shows on Netflix and Hulu, so I can't act "holier than thou" over the TV thing. I just get to pick the episodes I watch and when I watch them. It's pretty much the one thing I always dreamed of as a kid, lol. I just wish the selection was better, because there's just as much crap reality TV on Netflix as there is on broadcast TV.
I don't own a TV, I however dont share your view of American Pickers. I rather enjoy that show, at least the few times ive seen it.
deadliest catch is good...but yeah all the rest are heavily scripted..im sure deadliest catch is too to some extent but not anywhere near as much as all the copycat shows
haha, I haven't watched TV in.. 5-6 years. Not to say I don't watch shows though. Netflix is pretty cool, but all of my favorite shows are usually older ones from the turn of the century: Futurama, Doctor Who, Malcolm in the Middle I've tried watching TV before in-between my huge hiatus, and I just felt as if the commercials were longer than the show, and sometimes.. even better. I think I would have ADD if I watched TV. Honestly, my favorite story lines come from games. Skyrim, and Assassins creed are really good stories IMO and they really dragged me in.
Yeah, this is how I am as well. I watch quite a bit of TV on Netlix, but I definitely avoid the reality shows in general, though I have a soft spot for Project Runway. I would have to say that "Hillbilly Handfishing" is the most disturbing thing I have ever seen...
We have netflix and a dvd collection. But at least my kids aren't bombarded by commercials. Cable and satellite are ridiculously expensive.
i just made the decision to not get a tv or cable/sat at my new home... the towing, parking, repo shows pushed me over the edge...i watch the comedynetwork.ca shows like the daily show and tosh.o i will catch Justified and SOA when they get posted online i dont miss the news either
My parents watch a lot of that stuff. Storage wars, animal repo, car stuff... I figure I'm not missing anything.
I think it's a shame that that reality show trend has spread to channels like Discovery and National geographic but yeah, over here there are some pretty entertaining shows. I agree a bout those shows like Pawnstars and Storage wars (yes those shit is broadcasted in the netherlands as well), it should just disappear. On the other hand, if other people like it and there are some shows on tv I dig I find it not a big deal. Switch it off or change the channel during commercials etc. suits me fine. Except when I'm at my parents house as well for instance, you just have to bear it. My parents happily dislike most reality shows too but I had to watch the opening ceremony of the Olympics there for instance. Also they like this datingshow for farmers without social skills. But that's the best one of it;s kind here teehee. I enjoy seeing those peoples life and farms and such and they seem pretty honest.
There's a pawn shop opening just 20 miles from where I live in London Kentucky, and they got some kind of TV deal. I guess hillbillies draw ratings baby. I'm thinking about finding something in my parents storage house and taking it up there and talking in an over exaggerated kentucky accent and try selling an old wicker seat that seconds as a toilet or something. If I do this I'll let you know. I'm pretty sure that's the kind of stuff they're looking for.
the john fedko teen football pedophile commercial is ruining my tv viewing.. the perks of living in pedosylvania ..
I love Pawn Stars cuz I love what they get...but I could really care less about the characters (except the old man, who is clearly unscripted and not giving any kind of fuck EVER) but American Pickers...I can't stand those guys. I'm sure I'd love that show if those guys weren't so fuckin giddy about everything! I tend to watch dramas after they've finished airing. I'm currently searching for a new show to watch at night, but can't find anything interesting enough. I tried Breaking Bad, but couldn't get into it.
old man on pawn stars practically has a teleprompter....i cant believe anyone would think he isnt scripted
