Here is a great video of Amy Goodman attempting to ask one of the Koch brothers a question. Amy Goodman is a national treasure. If only we had more people in media like her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhixJhhT3mM"]Amy Goodman Questions Top GOP Donor David Koch: Does Unchecked Money Subvert Democracy? - YouTube
Those people are absolutely immoral and they now hold sway over our government/election processes, because of the supreme court(other immoral fuckers) decision regarding corporations. There are posters in these forums that continually stick up for these kinds of people that have usurped the so-called power of the citizens and I detest their actions. I guarantee you, someone will come here and defend these pricks. I've listened to Amy Goodman for years on Pacifica radio. Thanks Nyx,for putting this up to show exactly what this country is dealing with.
It's not much different from 1000 years ago, when kings decided who lived and who died, based on whatever seemed most advantageous to them at the moment.
Are you talking about the Koches or about Obama's us citizen kill list and general drone programs? or both? or what?
Yes, Everything the Koch brothers do is justified, because Obama has a U.S. citizen Kill List and Uses drones. Twat.
Hold on, whoa. When and where did I write that anything at all that Koch does is justified, let alone everything? Uh, are you being, sarcastic, dude?
Unless I'm missing something, we were talking about the Koch brothers in this thread - in fact that's the title of the thread. So yes, I'm being sarcastic - actually I'm expressing a bit of exasperation, because as much as people on this message board seem to demonize Obama at every opportunity, they fail to consider the very real alternative we are facing. I just had one intelligent and socially conscious woman tell me that she's not going to bother to vote in the next election because she doesn't want to choose the lesser of two evils, but you can damn well bet that 20 other blood-thirsty, fearfully ignorant Faux News viewers will.
And unfortunately, they are now within the law, thanks to the "highest" court in the land. Money out of the election process is right at the top of the list of needed changes.
The Koch brothers are irrelevant. People should focus more on names like Brzezinski, Kissinger, Rockefeller, etc. The Koch bros. just have a lot of money, but they don't make the important decisions.
This is actually what I realized, finally (my god at my age too!). Karen's comment was just the perfect unintentional irony. To accuse the right of being autocratic deciders of life and death, when finally we have a president who claims he can do that. My point to her was "do you HEAR yourself? I'm lmaorofl right now". HOWEVER, that said, one of the reasons it's so hard for dems to criticize their own guy as much as he deserves (not just this prez, though it's been sad), is because they are NOT being told "but what about our democratic candidate, look at his flaws and sins" by honest, in-good-faith debaters who want everyone to explore all sides. They are mostly only reminded of their own sides faults by people who call themselves good, moderate, centrist, traditional, serious, practical right wingers but are in fact loose screw fascists who do a poor job of covering it up. So I now get it. It's been so hard to get other democrats to question their party loyalty not because they're tribalist but because they are absolutely besieged by the alternative voice of insane republicanism, that screams at them all the time. It's a very dispiriting thing to have to bear that kind of harassment on a daily social level and obviously, you'll not be in the mood to focus on your own flaws when you're being threatened so aggressively by scum. Whereas, republicans have been so unwilling to criticize reaganbushcheney...because they are scum. Simply put.
Ummm NO. They are not irrelevant. Have you heard of Citizens United? These old bastards are BUYING elections, BUYING/MAKING policy. The Koch Bros are behind ALEC. ALEC manufactures LAW. Research it.
And...anybody in ANY party who waits for the perfect candidate is going to be waiting forever. Imagine all the political party offices full of dusty skeletons, seated at their desks.
You know, there is a level of decency...(sigh)..I guess I can just laugh that you're proving my point about being able to question oneself. Good image, though. Rebpublicans were never waiting for a perfect or even a good candidate. They are waiting (and angry that they don't have, to their taste) the worst candidate. They want bionic Hitler-Limbaugh, if they could have him made. Obama was a TERRIBLE, AWFUL, REALLY BAD, NO GOOD president for liberals of any principled mind. And given that you're such a culture warrior, it should appall you that he waited to tackle gay issues until later in his term, as it would build support. And it should appall you that he cracks down on medical marijuana so hard. But an obamabot is a little beyond the partisan distress I was describing.
It's outrageous that this government has devolved into an auction that is for sale to those with the most money. Democracy is now a joke. If that basic premise is accepted,it follows then, that if those with the most money are running the government AND the economy--why is the country in such horrible shape and most likely to collapse in the future? Have they put this country in better shape for the majority of the citizens? The answer is obvious and I think their motivations are now also pretty obvious. That is, to amass as much wealth as possible in any way possible, without regard to the results of their actions towards citizen or country. Want more wealth? Bust unions and return to the days of powerlessness of those who do the actual work. Fight against raising the minimum wage. Ship your factories/businesses overseas to take advantage of the poor in countries that often are kept in line with clubs or guns to keep order and the factories churning out the products they expect us to buy. Never mind that moving the factories that employed american citizens and that enabled them/us to buy or keep homes, pay bills and enjoy some kind of a middle class life for us and our children is fast disappearing. Beat those up in the streets that have the gall to point out the disparities. And still,I see those that still believe libertarian/republican ideas are the way to go,which have only exacerbated the differances between the way this country worked for most of us in the 50s-60s,etc and the mindset that has gotten us to where we are now. That way of thinking worked quite well in the 1600-1700-1800s when we were still able to move around and settle an almost empty country and take whatever land/riches one could take and hold by hook or crook. (Didn't work so well for those that were already here, but that's another story. As my republican friend remarked "well, they wern't using it,so we took it." True enough,I suppose. They had found a balance relative to their place in the world around them. But hey--a little genocide never hurt anyone. A logical conclusion of the direction of this country as it is becoming = gated enclaves of rich/libertarian/republican types with their own private armies to keep the unwashed, broke, hungry and very ANGRY masses away from their idyllic lives, while everyone else defends themselves against the hundreds of thousands of gang members that will become millions by dint of former middle class citizens joining in OF NECESSITY to try to survive the apocalypical collapse that will happen if serious changes don't occur. Libertarianism personified. Everyone gets what they can take at the expense of anyone or anything that gets in the way. Sound familiar? As Karen said-the more things change, the more they remain the same. I would not have made these "crazy" statements if I had not lived thru the 40s-on up and can see where the progression of events of the past 70 years is going. When I entered the work force --money was easily gotten because there were jobs for anyone that wanted one. The progressive policies that the unions had fought and in some cases died for, were being enjoyed by an ever growing middle class. Our politicians were able to find compromise and keep government moving. Of course ,the conservative portion of our population didn't quite cotton to the way the government was allowing the hard fought for changes that helped ordinary citizens have their own little middle class fortunes ,so they needed to eliminate the harbingers of fairness and equality---BANG--adios Kennedys. Hello Nixon,Ford,Reagen Bush,Bush. So, you youngins and Ayn Rand devotees go head on and keep your heads firmly buried in the sand. But I suggest you KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY. I know my family is.
