Let's see, maybe in your "infinite wisdom" you can show me in the Bible where Christian where authorized to engage in the crusades or the donation of Pepin or that Christians were to force anyone to do anything?

As for "hell fire" people like you keep bringing up to try and condemn Christianity, it is a pagan doctrine that was incorporated into the Catholic Church and from there flowed to Protestantism but is no part of Christianity, much like Christmas (the Saturnalia) and immortality of the soul from Greek philosophy.

Your not knowing these things seems like ignorance to me.

    You are correct.

Yes, the word "hell" can be found in the Bible and is used as the translation of the Hebrew word Sheol which basically means grave, thus when you read the word "hell" in the Bible you can think grave.

What started Christianity was the Christ, not the Catholic Church.

And despite what Catholics might say, Peter was not the first "Pope". In first in the first century he was not even the "head" of the Christian Congregation. When the issue of circumcision came up, it appears that it was James that spoke the decision of the Congregation, not Peter. (Acts 15:3-29)

Return evil for evil to no one. Provide fine things in the sight of all men. If possible, as far as it depends upon YOU, be peaceable with all men. (Romans 12:17-21)

. . .know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power. . .(2 Timothy 3:1-5) Yes it is a hard battle for us all not to just join the crowd around us and become desensitized.

I think Peter was proclaimed first pope by a later pope to strengthen his position. Also, Catholic church is not what started christianity but it certainly developed a large part of christianity.

Hello everyone..sorry to abandon my thread a bit here..

after the apostle John died at around 100 ce..a great apostacy set in for the Christian Congregation..as usual, men and women chose to do more of what is according to tradition rather than what they had been instructed by Jesus..thus, the dark ages began

In Rome, you either became a christian or you were beheaded..what a great way to turn people away from God.

The Catholic church certainly developed a large part of what is called "Christianity" but by their fruitage you will know them.

It does not matter if the bible is subjective or objective, you can not make that decision you made there for everybody else. Some use the bible to look for answers and perhaps some find it in the freaking Lord of the rings. What's it to you? You can be a dick about it but don't expect to not be called on that.

Edit: Does it matter to you that those themes are in it? By the way, what kind of proof were you looking for in the Bible? It is not about finding proof of anything.

I am reading the bible and studying it intently. I read James the other day and have started in on Revelation again..I really like Revelation 21:4

"And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

what a great hope for us as humans and how awesome that death will be done away with..this is what we have all been waiting for!:sunny:

The Jews think they're the only ones going to heaven, as do muslims and christians. I don't think either of the three are spot on, I think the creation of mankind has been diluted with the idea that one should "obey, or burn in eternal fire."
    by STP

BullFuckingShit. Jews & Muslims do not think that. Where ever did you ever get such false information? And for how long have misled others with this fallacy? Laugh my post off if you want,
but you are one of the few here that I think should repent of what you just wrote. People like you start misunderstandings & trouble.

From what we know when stars die they supernova so i would say that would destroy the earth...and i guess that answers the question about burning in hell. This IS hell and the whole thing will burn up someday.

Not as much as I should

    Because of God's love.
We do not have a separate soul, as such, that goes anywhere so it simply ceases.
    Satan
There is a symbolic Earth that will be destroyed but not the physical Earth we live on.
    Yes

Thought I'd just give the simple answers this time.
