    This crazy woman I swear...
The baby I sit for got dropped off today without a car seat. I didnt think much of it, only that it was a little different that usual. They usually leave her car seat in case of emergency or for the grandma to pick her up at night.

The grandma came in and asked where the car seat was and I said I didn't have it. She started saying how she was going to "kill" her daughter when she got home for not leaving it with me.

I asked if she wanted to leave the baby with me a little longer while she went to get the carseat. The grandmother said it would be fine, it WASN'T (edit) a long drive, and the baby (8 months old now) could sit in her lap or with a seat belt. I just shrugged my shoulders and said "okay if that's what you want to do".

So, IDK if they made it home okay or not. All I can picture is the baby falling into the floor board and causing a wreck!!!! I'm sooo mad that she did that. I could have argued and made her leave the baby with me but... I didn't. Crazy!

I'd have my baby in my lap or let it stick it head out the window like a puppy

Every once in a while I wonder how some of us ever made it to adulthood without things like car seats.

    Yall are just bad!!! LMAO!
I already don't really LIKE the baby. She's needy and cries a lot. (Don't judge, I have my reasons.) But she pays me so...

My suggestion was to put her in a dog kennel on the roof!! If that's all they think about their kid, why should I put forth the extra effort to give a shit about it! IDK - This situation is just getting really upsetting!! (Lots of exclamation points!!)

1/3 of all fatal car accidents are caused by babies getting stuck under the brake pedal.

where did the baby get its money?

I think that anyone that would do that to their kids or grandchildren is someone I don't need in my life. If that is how they treat their own, I know they don't give a damn about me.

    Damn some parents really suck.
On another note I remember climbing in the back window of the car when i was young. Around 5ish. No seat belt or booster. And im pretty sure my dad was drinking beer and smoking a j.
    Yikes my parents sucked!

We did not have seat belts in a car until sometime in the mid 1960's. And I forget when they started requiring that cars have them and that the passengers had to use them. I also wonder how any of us made it to adulthood. I am pretty sure that when we were infants that my Mom held us in her lap in the front passenger seat while my Dad drove.

All that said, I would not want to drive an infant around without a car seat now. I am still amazed when they have news stories of people leaving their children in cars in the summer (or any time for that matter).

Maybe the kid is cranky because of other ways the parents/grandparents treat him/her.

My sister used to sleep in the package tray by the back window. We didn't have seatbelts in a 53 Ford.

Hahaha - no! The grandma pays me!

We have more cars and more accidents these days. Children need a freaking carseat. It's the law and it's common sense. I wish we could go back to the days where things weren't so dangerous!

I can see the kids ears flapping in the wind now!

Ever seen the face of someone who didn't wear a seat belt and hit the windshield?
    I have, not pretty.....for life.

Ever seen a baby that wasn't in a car seat when the VW bus flipped and rolled?
    sadly I have. :(

Not using a car seat is flat-out stupid.
Some things only have to happen once to have a life-long impact.

The only thing you have to watch out for when you drop a baby from your lap is that it's head doesn't get under the gas pedal.

Am I the only who read this and thought really you let them go??!!

I honestly think I might have tipped off the police, how dangerous was that, and not just for baby and grandma but other ppl on the road as well.

Kinda your responsibility as a carer to make sure baby is looked after if anything did happen might come back to you for releasing the child knowing the child was going to be put in danger.

I mean I don't want to be the party pooper but when I read this I was in shock, and ya ya back in the 50's no seatbelt, that was the past.

I mean, I asked! I did ask to keep her!

I can't twist her arm and make her. I even though about calling DSS but... I really don't know what to do! I'm kind of in the state of mind of whatever happens when she's not here is none of my business. IDK. Really messed up situation.

You were in protective custody of the child at the time, you can refuse to give the child back on the grounds of it being unsafe.

Let Nana call the cops, they would have been on your side.

The last thing you want to hear is they were in a wreck and guess what b/c baby wasn't in a seat.............

I know I sound like a complete and utter bitch right now too, but it just screams irresponsible. What else happens to this baby??

I've heard things from the baby's previous sitter. All I know first hand is that the baby falls off of stuff at home a lot and they bring her over in the same diaper she wore all night!
The other sitter told me that the baby is either held all the time or yelled at all the time. Supposedly the mom put her in the swing one day and started beating on the swing yelling at her to shut up.
