OK, now that I got your attention:

It was actually a pyramid shaped rock. However it is pretty cool nonetheless.

What are the odds of something eroding in the shape of a pyramid?

Is it possible that maybe we built pyramids because they were naturally formed shapes on Mars? Probably not... But you never know.

Now, it's not all that big, but I think we are surprised at finding it because while it is rounded, it is an interesting shape to find in nature. Maybe it might even have been part of the top of a real pyramid perhaps? One from long ago eroded away?

Of course that could probably be explained away as if it were it wouldn't be a rounded edge.. But after aeons of erosion could our pyramids in Egypt look the same? Ground down by the ages to just the top of the pyramid?

You can check out more about it at the article below.

    "
NASA's Mars rover Curiosity found an unusual pyramid-shaped rock en route to an area known as Glenelg, where researchers expect to find a combination of three different types of geological terrain.
The rock is pictured about 2.5m in front of the rover and is about 25cm tall and 40cm wide. It will be tested by the robot, which is has been on the move for the past six days travelling between 22 meters to 37 meters daily.

Could be... But who's going to do the digging... Those probes aren't equipped to dig right?

Also, looking at the pic, it looks like it's just the top piece.. Shadows at base suggest it's on it's lonesome.. But it would be cool if the probe tried to pic it up and they found it was bigger than they thought!

Hmmm... Speaking of which, did they cancel that mission to Mars they were going to have in 2016 I think it was? I heard about scrapping most of the space program, but no mention was really ever made about that..

Maybe they "scrapped" the program so they could go see what it was, and not have people complain if nothing is there.. Or keep anything they find to themselves....

However, really hard to hide a rocket launch.. Especially one that would go to Mars... Have to be a huge sucker...

It doesn't appear to go below the surface. Theres a gap between the bottom and the ground.

Probably pretty likely. I've seen much stranger erosion and rock formations right here on Earth.

It's a friggin' giant Pyramid on Mars, dammit!

And I'm going to stay here in this thread for at least 6 months arguing with any of you who want to argue about it.

    GIANT PYRAMID!! :D

That just looks like a broken rock, but how did it get broken? Aliens must have dropped it.

Well, I was all excited it was the tip of a pyramid, but guess truth is it isn't.

Too bad.. Would have been awesome to think of us getting inspiration from Mars. But then you guys brought up the point, how would we have seen it? (I dunno... Telescopes... Which we didn't have until the 1800s or so...)

Obviously, it's a full-sized pyramid. It's just that Martians are REALLY small.

    Hmmm... Where's the door?

On another note, actually martians would have tended to evolve taller given the lesser gravity? At least so said the movie "John Carter" :p

Wait... Maybe they made those "pyramid hats" out of rock??

    Eerily similar you must admit...
