Not sure if this is the right place to post but I'll give it a go anyway just in case anyone is suffering from withdrawal. Gabapentin is a fucking wonder drug for opiate withdrawal. It bugs the shit outta me that this is somewhat unknown. I'm on day 3 of a HEAVY Oxy withdrawal and I feel GREAT. This is my 3rd withdrawal using GABA and I tell you it takes everything away! The sweats the chills the RLS the fatigue the shits EVERYTHING. I rode my horse today. Before I discovered GABA I would have still been crawling to the bathroom, crying, body like lead, DEPRESSION, you know the drill. I will wean off the GABA in a few weeks. No problems. Of course it does nothing for relapse obviously, however at least I know I'm not gonna feel like DYING again if I stupidly fuck up again. Hope this can help at least one person avoid the agony. PS another important note I want to add is that my sex drive is off the charts. I haven't had an orgasm in over a fucking year! Oxy took that from me. Now I'm wanting sex every damn minute. It's amazing!
It does work..but be carefull...gabapentin withdrawal can be hell..it is on par with benzo withdrawal. I have been on gabapentin for 6 years now. From 3000 MGs a day to 1,800 MGs now. When i don't take it..i do feel sick..it is going to suck getting off of this stuff..hopefully not for a while.
Hi, I do understand your concern. However I've been on and off it for years and have never had any withdrawal from it. I make sure to only take it for 6 weeks or so. I'm supposed to take it daily for neuropathy but I don't. I only use it for opiate withdrawal. Hope this helps.
Yeah, big time. I think I'm on day 5 and I feel great. I actually got out and did a ton of much needed yard work today. The opiate fog has lifted and I'm seeing all the shit I've ignored this past year. This truly is nothing short of amazing. On Day 5 without GABA I'd still be bedridden, puking, shitting, sweating and in emotional misery.
Honestly I've read mixed reviews on this. My gut feeling is no. Google the hell out of it though. But from what I've read it just doesn't seem to have the same effect. Sorry, wish I could be more help on Benzo wd.
no i don't have benzo withdrawal..but i have been on gabapentin for years and year...just wondering since people said it worked for opiates
I will say this...if i don't take my 900-1,200 mg of gabapentin a day..i feel like absolute shit. So i know this drugs has withdrawals and pretty bad ones
Brady, there is no doubt in my mind Gabapentin withdrawals exist! However, I've never used it longer than 6 weeks and that was one time. Otherwise I've used it only 3 other times including now. I cut my dose today to 1600mgs and plan to be off it in two weeks, maybe less...again, for me, I've yet to experience withdrawals. And I still stand by how it eases all my opiate withdrawal agony..However, if I do experience wds I will post my experience here. Yeah, in your case since you're a regular user Ive no idea it would work for you. My gut feeling thinks no though....
Some Docs will do that (switch to the gabapentin after discontinuing the benzos) and then reduce the gaba-p Yes it will "help"...in that it binds to much of the same receptors as benzos. SO..its really more like replacement therapy. Thats why there's w/d's on the gabapentin.
I was prescribed Gabapentin at 1200mg per day for a few years for neuropathy before I even heard it could be used for opiate withdrawals. I'd been taking Hydrocodone for 8 years and was definitely dependent on it. I went through wd's a few times while I was taking the Gabapentin and didn't notice it helping, but I was only taking 1200mg per day. Then I heard it could be used for opiate wd's, but at higher doses. So I tried that, and the results were unbelievable. I upped the dose to 2400-3200mg per day, and aside from a little diarrhea, I really didn't notice the withdrawal symptoms. It doesn't stop the withdrawal process, it just seems to mask the symptoms. When it's over I gradually reduce the dosage back to what I'm prescribed, because if I don't I can't sleep. But I've used it probably a half-dozen times now, and it's never failed me. The Gabapentin itself will knock you silly, though. The first day of it is really pleasant, but after that I feel really spaced out. But it's much better than suffering through wd's.
i was on 2400 mg daily nuerontin daily for off label anxiety (i ate all my xanax in 2 days they took em away from me) and i was on that for 6 months, ran out never saw that dr again, no withdrawl............ ??
never heard of it. I wonder how it compares to suboxone? I use subs for WD just because they are the only thing I can usually come across, but I'm curious if this gaba shit would have helped me in the past... because I was addicted to opiates and benzos for a while. Hmmmmmm
I don't think it can really be compared to Suboxone. Gabapentin doesn't interact with opiate receptors. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but it does seem to mask the effects of opiate withdrawal pretty effectively. I mean, I was able to sleep without that nasty RLS, I could eat (in fact it increased my appetite), and get around and do things. The first day at 3200mg was actually pretty nice. But I only really got a buzz from it on the first day, because your tolerance goes up pretty quickly. After the first day I kept the dosage the same, because I was mainly interested in keeping the wd's away and not catching a buzz. I was wd'ing from Hydrocodone, so it was about a week before I began to cut back on the Gabapentin dosage. One thing I noticed though, is that it makes you urinate a LOT, so you need to drink plenty of water.
YES. It helps with opaite and benzo withdrawal a lot. That is how i was originally prescribed it. It can also help with anxiety. Gabapentin actually acts on the gaba receptors in your brain in a similar way that benzos, xanax, clonazepam, diazepam, etc, act on those receptors. As someone else said be careful and dont take too much as gabapentin withdrawal is awful on its own. You dont need to get a buzz off of it, just enough to take the aches, and anxiety away. Try 600mg a couple times a day.
I'm shaking my head in bewilderment, not because i don't believe what's been said, but after the 4 times I went through WDs off opiates, then Subs, I had, and still have over 300 600mg capsules, LOL!
Listen I shoot a quarter a day and I am going to stop with the neurontin aka Johnys. The thing I wanted to say is I'm reading a lot of what people are saying about neurontin and how it helps with withdrawal to get more info for my self but the one thing everyone is leaving out Mabry it's a Boston thing but if you take 600s or 800s about 4 to10 or what ever you take DRINK A MONSTER OR RED BULL OR COFFE with them it for some reason sets them off and you are flying if you don't no know you do JOHNYS AND RED BULL YA BUDDY
Those were my thoughts exactly when I tried Gaba the first time for wd's and it worked, because I'd had access to it for about 3 years at that point. I just happened to read about this on another forum. My two thoughts were EUREKA! and "DAMN!, I could have saved myself a lot of needless misery". Oh well.
