Wow. This is freaking retarded. I just deactivated my account right now. This is a HUGE security breach. Have Facebook users discovered a bug that exposes private correspondences between friends on the social networking site? According to Metro France, non-public messages sent between 2007 and 2009 may be appearing publicly on some users Timelines. France's Le Nouvel Observateur is also reporting that private correspondences from 2010, 2011 and 2012 are being affected, as well. The exposed posts reportedly appear peppered throughout public posts on the timeline. "There may be messages in Inbox or chat conversations on internal Facebook. These messages are found mixed comments from friends on the wall," writes Metro France (per Google Translate). Both publications have provided a quick fix for the bug, telling users to edit the privacy options on individual posts by clicking the "pencil" icon that appears at the top right of posts. From the drop-down menu that appears, the user can choose to hide a particular post from the Timeline or delete the post altogether. dude. My PM's were on my wall a second ago. Trust me. Glad I got to it before the old lady did. holy shit balls
Seeing as this is facebook, I doubt it's really a "bug". More like a pre-planned and expertly timed enhancement.
I have to take both your words for it, to be honest. I've not had an issue. So I think i'll stick with it for now.
a bug or a "conspiracy". governments and other major interests are all paranoid about people using "social networking" to "organize", FOR ANYTHING. and in case no one ever mentioned it, facebook IS owned be corporate economic interests. (as are twitter and most, if not all, of those other silly things)
A bug. I don't think the U.S, UK government or any liberal democracy is that concerned about Facebook et al. The Occupy movement don't seem to be concerning them that much, if at all. Somebody set up Facebook (etc) to make money? I'm shocked.
Why do people put up with Facebook's invasion into every aspect of their lives? I just don't get it. The facial recognition technology and tracking of buying/consumer habits alone keeps me away from it. http://www.nbcnews.com/technology/t...racking-americans-offline-purchases-1B6075586
I - and most people I know - don't put our entire lives on Facebook. So, it isn't every aspect of our lives. I do know people that put more than I do online. The buying/consumer habits (if indeed that is what it's supposed to be) are really useless, to be honest. They seem to be a random selection of this, that and the other. I like a variety of different things, they are not consistent with each other. So I get a mish mash of things popping up in the ad' spaces. I pay no attention to them. Why do you think Facebook does not make that much money off it's users, and is now using other means of generating money for itself? I didn't know the facial-recognition could pick out me from others. I just thought it worked out what faces looked like. No big deal really. If you think government is interested in you, and take all of this to the extreme, then stay away, I guess. I think I'll leave if it starts posting every website I visit on my Timeline - then I'd be in trouble
I can see how this could fuck things up for people but the most disturbing and frightening part of this thread is the use of the word 'retarded'.
well, it wasn't used perfectly in its literal sense, but it was correct slang usage. the thread also included "holy shit balls," which i think is farther from technically correct usage than retarded was.
