Which of them have you made? Aside from Jehovas Witnesses and the usual Mormons I met one from The Family that win members through so called flirty fishing and a group of Koreans from a religious movement called Church of God, that referr to God as the apparent mother of eath.

Christianity is a cult, by definition.

It is recognised as a world religion and therefore is not just a cult, but I do realise that Churches have some characteristsics of a cult.

To be the 'definitional' cult, does one not need a living person who runs the show and is considered infallible?

Chrisitanity in itself isn't not a cult, but many of it's sects are. The biggest being Catholisim.

Sects are religious groups that split from a recognised religion that it once belonged to.

Cults are usually some form of religious organisation that do not belong and never belonged to a recognised religion at all, and are not recognised as world religions.

World religions, like Christianity, are not sects because they did not seperate from any other religious organisation. They are legally recognised by states so that you can, for example get asylum in a foreign country if the country you are in does not tolerate you for having that belief. So Christianity is no cult either.

Asylum is not granted to people for being persecuted for belonging to a sect or cult because those are not legally recognised as religions according to international law. If that were not the case anyone could claim asylum to a rich country they want to immigrate to through the Baptismal certificate of any bogus organisation that claims to be a religion.

Jehovas Witnesses, however, may be recognised as a world religion because so many people belong to them all over the world. As for now they are still a sect.
