So I had my wisdom teeth taken out a week ago, and I've gone through three prescriptions of 20x 5mg hydrocodone/500mg apap. I'm down to the last six, and even though I'm still feeling some nasty pain, the doctor thinks I've had enough pills and won't prescribe me any more. I found this forum through google took me to this thread about potentiating opiates: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=305596 That thread, along with a lot of other information I have read here, seems to be geared towards potentiating a single high. For example, the daily recommended dose of Cimetidine is 400mg, and the linked method for potentiation has you taking 600mg before the opiates. I don't think I want to do that every single time I pop a pill. I'm not sure how long 6x 5mg hydrocodone could theoretically last me. I'm assuming my pain is going to diminish over the next few days so I'm going to plan on 2-3 today, 2 tomorrow, and 1-2 the day after depending on how it goes tonight. If I'm still in major pain in three days I'm going back to that doctor to tell him he was a retard and I need more. I probably won't take them all at once, I have been taking them every 4 hours and that seems to do the trick, but until I knew that my supply was running out I was taking 2 every four hours. Two pretty much erases all the pain. One doesn't seem to do much.
60 pills for wisdom teeth and you're still in pain? you're either a pussy, a liar, or you need to go see your surgeon...
The surgeon did say it took a lot of anesthesia to put me under...would that make a difference? I did see the doc at +3, +5 and +7 days after the surgery. I'm also taking 4 advil every 6 hours, and 60mg of DXM extended release daily. I don't know if this is supposed to potentiate the pain relieving effects or just the high, but I'm not even getting high anyway. I figured it can't hurt to try. My total experience with opiates before this was two pills when I broke my shoulder. The doctor gave them to me in the ER with a script that I never filled because it didn't hurt that bad. I also dropped a 45 plate on my foot which made it swell up to the size of a football, broke two metatarsals and I didn't even blink. Actually I finished my bench press sets, noticed that my shoe was tight and then did I notice that I should probably do something about my foot. No painkillers for that recovery either. I guess I do have a low tolerance when it comes to my mouth. The first two days after the operation I didn't know the pain that was to follow. In those two days I took ten, maybe twelve pills which was, in retrospect, more recreational than for pain relief. My jaw hurt, but if I knew the pain that was going to come I would have saved those pills for later. Wednesday through Saturday I was taking 2 every four hours, which was up to 8 a day, but I would wake up multiple times in the night in pain and took 1-2 more to help me get through the night. So there goes 40+ pills in 4 days. Saturday the doc told me over the phone that I was probably taking too many, so I tried to cut back on sunday and only had 7 total including the two I had taken in the middle of the night. That afternoon was fucking painful. I did nothing but apply heat, apply ice, take a walk around the block and repeat. The doc said 5 days after surgery that ice would not help and heat would help loosen things up, but subjectively heat made the inflammation feel worse and the cold would at least numb me or provide a sensation that was strong enough to take my attention away from the throbbing pain in my jaw. Today the pain is definitely less than on Sunday, but it's just always there. It's hard to focus on anything because it feels like something is trying to twist my jaw apart. By the way not all wisdom teeth extractions are equal. My lower wisdom teeth, the ones that are typically harder to extract, were partially fused in my jaw and growing in sideways. Also I'm 27 which makes wisdom teeth extraction more difficult as the jawbone is fully ossified after age 25. The surgeon had to cut my gums open and cut the teeth out of my jaw.
You've had 3 refills in a week, seen the dentist 3 times in a week, and was even able to talk to him by phone on a Saturday? That sounds a bit unusual. I've never gotten that kind of treatment from a dentist, even with dry sockets. I'm not calling you a liar, I'm just saying it sounds unusual. I'd love to have a dentist like that, lol. And 60 pills for a dental procedure, even impacted wisdom teeth is pretty generous. As far as making them last, I guess you'll just have to ration them. Save them for nighttime, when that type of pain tends to get worse. During the day just try to get by on Advil, or even better, Aleve.
That's a lot of Tylenol for a week man.. But of your in that much pain and wanna make em last drink grape fruit juice an hour before your gonna dose I'd say drink a full glass at 7am and at 8 am take em 2 whole.. If you break em in half it will hit harder but it won't last as long. And drink another glass of grapefruit juice when you take em. I got 2 teeth pulled in the same spot and I had to make 15 Vic's last long so it helped me out that way.. Hope this helps..
Yeah, the grapefruit juice thing does work, I've tried it myself. I didn't notice a really dramatic difference because of my high tolerance, but I did get a stronger effect, and it lasted longer.
If you are still in that much pain from wisdom teeth extraction after a week you should go to the ER, you could have a nasty infection.
Ya my wisdom teeth were rough. Mine were severly impacted though. like an inch up in my gums. And i was takin oxy and still in pain. I didn't even fill the hydros cuz they made me sick
Or you could even have dry sockets. That happens when you lose the blood clot for some reason and the bone is exposed. That hurts like hell. It can delay healing and the bone can even become infected. The dentist can pack it, or it can heal on it's own in time.
Buy coca leaf teabags from Amazon, stuff 1 or 2 in your mouth with some baking soda... leave it in there till stops working....repeat. Tooth Pain gone. edit: that amount of Hydocodone wouldn't last me long at all, hehe edit2: You can potentiate your hydros by predosing with gabapentin 2 hours before taking hydro...
